Dominick Cruz Discloses Who he Wants to Win Cody Garbrandt – TJ Dillashaw

UFC 217

Since Dominick Cruz lost the 135 belt to Cody Garbrandt, he’s campaigned for an immediate title shot, and now he’s disclosed who he wants to battle for the championship.

Cruz faced Garbrandt at UFC 207 last December, and lost the memorable fight via unanimous decision. Since the bout marked just the first time Cruz had been defeated since 2007, he’s argued he deserves another crack at the title. A lot of folks have said they agree with the former champ.

But, the next man who is going to take on the new champ Garbrandt, is Mr. TJ Dillashaw, who Cruz defeated in January, 2016. Garbrandt – Dillshaw will be part of UFC 217, which will take place on November 4th in New York City.

Cruz was  a guest on a recent edition of “UFC Unfiltered“, and the renowned fighter reported this (quotes via MMA Mania):

“I would prefer Cody to win, just because I’d like to fight him in a rematch for the belt. I think it would be a really sick fight and it would be good for me,” said Cruz.

“I’m always training, I’ve been training this whole time. For me the title shot is important. I’ve earned that shot, I held the belt longer than anyone in this division and I help build the division,”

“I gave Cody that shot when I could’ve fought T.J. again. I have been doing this to build the division. I brought another guy up and fought him for the title because I wanted another guy in the mix. We needed that for the division. If any one of these guys gets hurt I would like to slide in and challenge for the title, 100-percent,”

There you have it, and really, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Most fighters hope to avenge their defeats, so since Cruz already defeated Dillashaw, it’s understandable he wants another shot at Garbrandt.

It’s going to be interesting to see what goes down at UFC 217. While one would think Cruz will face the winner, if Garbrandt – Dillashaw is razor thin close, or if there’s any controversy, there could be an immediate rematch.
