Kevin Lee on Why he Doesn’t Give a “F–k” About The UFC’s Rankings

UFC 216

If you believe Kevin Lee shouldn’t be fighting for the interim lightweight title at UFC 216, since he’s not ranked in the top five, don’t bother trying to convince “The Motown Phenom”.

Lee has been booked to fight Tony Ferguson for the interim belt, after winning five straight fights. Currently the rising fighter is ranked #7 in the lightweight division, and Ferguson is sitting in the #2 spot.

During a recent media call to promote the October 7th event, however, Lee had this to say about the UFC rankings (quote via MMA Junkie):

“…“Like, I don’t see even why other fighters are putting … them rankings, they don’t matter. Y’all make the rankings. I don’t give a f*ck about the rankings. The only thing everybody above me in this division got on me is some years, is some time. That’s it.”

“When you look at the rankings, they don’t mean nothing,” Lee added. “Some of these dudes that’s in the top 25, top 30, they’ll beat any of the guys in the top five. They got Nate Diaz, who’s got plenty of losses, in the top five. It don’t make sense. They got Justin Gaethje, who only got one (UFC) fight against…”

Whether you believe Lee should be in this spot or not, there’s no denying he’s been on an impressive run. If he can get by Ferguson, there won’t be too many people criticizing the match-up then…
