Cub Swanson Reports He’s Scrapping Brian Ortega Next

Kelsey Mowatt

Cub Swanson is reporting he has his next bout, as the featherweight’s announced he’ll take on the rising Brian Ortega, December 9th.

Recently Swanson posted the image below on Instagram, and that post follows a report from Farah Hannoun, which said the fight was in the works.

Swanson (25-7) has won four straight fights and is coming off a decision win over Artem Lobov in April.

Ortega (12-0, 1 no-contest), meanwhile, submitted Renato Carneiro in his last bout, and he’s gone undefeated in five UFC bouts to date.

So, on paper, this is an outstanding fight, and it also has big implications in terms of a title shot. Swanson is currently ranked #4 and Ortega is #6, so the winner could move onto a title shot, or a title shot eliminator.
