It certainly sounds like Johny Hendricks must be enjoying life as a middleweight, as with less than a month to go from his UFC 217 scrap with Paulo Henrique Costa, he’s still over the 200 pound mark.
The former welterweight champ elected to leave the 170 division behind, after he had repeated difficulties making the weight. Recently Hendricks was a guest on “Submission Radio“, and “Bigg Rigg” reported the following (quote via MMA Mania):
“I’ve been working the UFC nutritionist. So I’m working with people, I’m working with them. My weight, I’m gonna try to hit under 200 (lbs.) this week and then I’ll be three weeks out from weigh-ins. By the time I get there my goal is to be right around 195 so he has an easy time with me. And those are all easy things to do. I’ve been eating a lot, I’ve doing a lot of things differently, been running more, you know, things that I’m not relying on other people about…”
Obviously if Hendricks was supposed to fight at welterweight on November 4th, this news might set off some alarm bells. But, if all goes according to plan, it sounds like the decorated wrestler will be on point for UFC 217.
