Sam Alvey agreed to step up on short notice and fight Ramazan Emeev this weekend at UFC Fight Night 118, and it sounds like “Smile’n” could have some rough times, as the bout nears.
Emeev was scheduled to fight Trevor Smith on Saturday, but the latter withdrew from the event, and Alvey was tapped for the bout. Well, this week, Alvey told MMA Junkie that when he got the call to scrap not that long ago, he was over 220 pounds…The charismatic fighter also said this:
“We’re going to make the biggest weight cut of my life, but we’re going to do it successfully.”
“As soon as camp (for his last fight) is over, I’m back, I’m lifting, I’m getting swole – and I’m eating,” Alvey added, reportedly half jokingly.
“It was a lot of fun making weight – so far!”
So, here’s hoping Alvey’s cut to 185 goes well, as that’s a lot of weight to shed. The 31 year-old is coming off a split decision win over Rashad Evans in August.
UFC FN 118 will take place in Gdansk, Poland.
