Conor McGregor captured the attention of a lot of folks at UFC Fight Night 118, including the ref, but Andre Fili says he didn’t notice the star coaching Artem Lobov during their scrap.
Since McGregor and Lobov are longtime friends and teammates, the UFC champ attended the card. During the bout, McGregor came to the cage to yell instructions at Lobov, and he even started moving around the Octagon while coaching. That, however, was shut down by referee Marc Goddard.
Fili went on to win the bout via decision, and more recently, he appeared on MMA Junkie.com Radio. The Team Alpha Male fighter acknowledged that he was aware McGregor was in attendance, but, he had this to say, regarding his coaching (quote via MMA Junkie):
“During the fight I didn’t notice him at all, to be honest,” Fili said. “I was just focused on the fight. I didn’t notice he was circling around. When (Goddard) stopped me and Artem, when I was on top of him, I didn’t know why the (expletive) he was stopping. I didn’t even hear McGregor. I was just hearing my cornerman, and I was just trying to beat Artem up.”
It was a key win for Fili; no question. UFC FN 118 took place in Gdansk, Poland.
