Khabib Nurmagomedov And Edson Barboza Are Booked For Battle

Kelsey Mowatt

For months, there’s been plenty of talk about when and who Khabib Nurmagomedov will fight next, and today the UFC announced he’ll battle fellow contender, Edson Barboza.

The lightweight fight will be part of the December 30th, UFC 219 card, which will go down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Nurmagomedov hasn’t fought since last November, when he submitted Michael Johnson at UFC 205. The undefeated fighter was booked to fight Tony Ferguson this past March, but the galaxy class grappler ran into medical issues during his weight cut, and had to pull out.

Barboza, on the other hand, is coming off a KO win over Beneil Dariush in March at UFC FN 106. The vaunted striker has won three straight fights.

So, when you consider a lot of signs are pointing to Ferguson fighting Conor McGregor next, this bout make a lot of sense. Nurmagomedov is currently ranked #2 at 155, and Barboza is #3.
