After Derek Brunson took out Lyoto Machida yesterday, he relayed he’s interested in fighting Luke Rockhold next, and the middleweight’s feeling pretty good about his chances against the former champ.
Brunson dropped Machida not long into the UFC Fight Night 119 headliner with a winging, left hook, and then KO’d the legend with follow up shots. In his post-fight, Octagon interview, Brunson told Daniel Cormier he’d like to fight his buddy and teammate.
During the post-fight presser, Brunson also had this to say about facing Rockhold (quote via MMA Fighting):
“He’s a top-level guy,” Brunson said “He’s one or two in the division. I think it would be a great matchup. I think I could put hands on him, touch that chin one time, I can put him down also.”
“For sure, a win over Rockhold would definitely get me next to the title shot,” Brunson stated. “The media sleeps on me a lot, but what I’ve done in the UFC, what I’ve done over my career – I had a controversial decision over Anderson, let’s say I get that win, that takes away a loss…”
Prior to UFC FN 119, Brunson was ranked #7 in the 185 division, and Rockhold was sitting in the #2 spot.
