Daniel Cormier Hopes Jon Jones Gets a “Shorter Suspension”

Daniel Cormier’s greatest rival may be Jon Jones, and the latter’s list of scandals isn’t a short one, but recently the champ relayed he hopes “Bones” is back in the cage soon. How’s that?

Cormier has faced Jones on two occasions now, and has been defeated by the former light-heavyweight champ twice. The second loss, however,  a KO defeat this past July, was overturned to a no-contest, after Jones was flagged by USDA again (Jones has denied knowingly using performance enhancing drugs).

Well, Cormier has always said he wants to get his losses back, as Jones is the only person to defeat him to date, which is why the decorated wrestler recently said this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“For me, personally, I prefer him to get a shorter suspension, so we could fight again,” Cormier said. “Of course I would fight him again. I am who I am, to fault. … I just like to fight him. I feel like I get better every time I prepare to fight him.”

“I’m not gonna move on from our rivalry,” Cormier added. “It was too big. It’s gonna go down in history. I think people are optimistic. They want to believe in the good. When he says stuff like ‘back to work,’ they think maybe it’s not gonna be as long.”

Cormier also noted that he still doesn’t believe he can’t defeat Jones, despite the losses he’s incurred versus the renowned fighter. That’s not surprising to hear really, as Cormier is unquestionably one of the greatest fighters on the planet, and if not for his losses to Jones, he’d likely be considered one of the all time greats.

The big question is, however, whether Cormier – Jones will happen again. Since Jones is coming off a one year suspension, even a two year suspension would be considered a “short one”. So, by the time Jones is back, Cormier could be 39 or 40 year’s old.

Cormier also repeated that he intends to fight Volkan Oezdemir next, over Alexander Gustafsson. “DC” said a bout with Oezdemir is “something new, something different.”
