UFC 116 Live Results and Play-by-Play for “Lesnar vs. Carwin”

Brock Lesnar and Shane will have live results and play-by-play from tonight’s “UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin” event beginning at 7pm ET.

UFC 116 preliminary card results will begin at 7pm, followed by live results and play-by-play for the pay-per-view main card at 10pm, including the anticipated main event clash between heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar and interim champ Shane Carwin.

UFC 116 Play-by-Play


Round 1 – Sotiropoulos connects with a straight right early, then counters a leg kick with a combination. Sotiropoulos continues to fire punches, eventually dropping Pellegrino and following him to the ground. Sotiropoulos looks to take his back, but Pellegrino escapes to his feet. Pellegrino struggles to get much off as Sotiropoulos continues to fire punches, but does score a takedown only to have Sotiropoulos quickly stand. Pellegrino finally connects, then Sotiropoulos lands a knee. Sotiropoulos with more punches, then Pellegrino gets a takedown but Sotiropoulos is in control with elbows from the bottom. Pellegrino escapes for a few punches as the round ends. scores the round for Sotiropoulos 10-9.

Round 2 – Pellegrino and Sotiropoulos walk to the center of the cage and trade punches. Sotiropoulos grabs a leg and works to score a takedown. Pellegrino keeps Sotiropoulos under control momentarily, but he eventually gets free and passes to half guard. Sotiropoulos rains down elbows, but Pellegrino scrambles to the cage. Sotiropoulos passes to side control, then looks to take the back of Pellegrino, who works back to his feet. Sotiropoulos presses for another takedown, but Pellegrino manages to stay standing. Pellegrino misses with a knee as they separate from the clinch. Sotiropoulos lands a head kick, and Pellegrino follows it up with a solid knee to finish the round. scores the round for Sotiropoulos 10-9, putting him up 20-18.

Round 3 – Pellegrino tries to connect with punches, but Sotiropoulos continues to win the exchanges. Sotiropoulos has Pellegrino backing away as he connects with more punches, but Pellegrino scores a takedown. Pellegrino looks to ground and pound, but Sotiropoulos does a good job limiting his damage. Pellegrino breaks free to connect with some solid elbows. Sotiropoulos traps Pellegrino, but he breaks free and they return to their feet. Sotiropoulos stuffs a takedown and presses Pellegrino against the fence in the clinch. Pellegrino drops Sotiropoulos with a knee in the final seconds, but the round ends. scores the third round 10-10, and we’ve got Sotiropoulos winning the bout 30-28.

Round 1 – Bonnar starts the action with a kick, while Soszynski counters with punches. Soszynski throws some kicks before Bonnar scores an early takedown. Soszynski looks for a submission, but finally gives it up and they return to their feet. Soszynski connects with punches that bloody Bonnar before clinching against the fence. Bonnar connects with a combination as they separate. They trade leg kicks in the center of the Octagon, then Bonnar stalks Soszynski, who catches a kick but abandons a takedown. Bonnar clinches Soszynski against the cage and unloads a wild combination, which allows Soszynski to escape. Bonnar connects again before Soszynski returns to the clinch. Bonnar looks for a takedown, but Soszynski stuffs it then lands again when they separate before the round ends. scores the first for Soszynski 10-9.

Round 2 – Bonnar throws first, but Soszynski counters with an early flurry. Bonnar fires back with punches against the fence before Soszynski reverses and connects with more punches of their own. After separating, Soszynki connects again before returning to the clinch, where Bonnar scores a takedown into side control. Soszynski scrambles back to his feet, but Bonnar drops him with a knee in the clinch and follows him to the ground, where he tees off with punches until the referee finally stops the fight.

Round 1 – Chris Lytle misses with an early bomb, then clinches. Brown goes on the offense after separating, but they’re quickly back in the clinch, where Brown gets a trip but Lytle immediately stands. They struggle for position against the fence, then Brown connects with a head kick as they separate. Lytle quickly gets back into the clinch, but it’s Brown who scores a takedown. Lytle goes for a leg, but Brown grabs a D’arce in a scramble. It’s locked on, but Lytle manages to survive then stands and connects as they separate. Brown lands kicks, but Lytle counters. Lytle tries to clinch, but Brown pushes him away then trips him with a kick. Brown follows him down, then Lytle rolls for an armbar, but the round ends. scores the round for Brown 10-9.

Round 2 – Brown fires lows kicks to start the second, while Lytle looks for an opening to counter. Brown connects with punches, then Lytle hurts Brown with an uppercut. Lytle grabs a guillotine, then transitions to an inverted triangle before forcing Brown to submit to an armbar.

Round 1 – Akiyama catches a kick and trips Leben down, but they’re quickly back to their feet. Leben and Akiyama trade leg kicks. Leben rushes forward with punches, then connects with more leg kicks. Akiyama misses, and Leben counters before firing more kicks. Akiyama catches Leben in the groin with a kick, but they resume after a brief break. Leben closes in and connects with a knee, but Akiyama scores a takedown. Leben tries for an armbar, but Akiyama escapes and works from Leben’s guard. Leben grabs another armbar and it’s tighter, but Akiyama escapes. Akiyama gets mount in a scramble and goes for an armbar, but Leben escapes and gets back to half guard. Leben scrambles to his feet and Akiyama clinches briefly before separating. Leben connects with punches, then Akiyama scores a takedown into side control in the final seconds. scores the round for Akiyama 10-9.

Round 2 – Leben fires a leg kick, then slips on a head kick. Akiyama sneaks in a punch, but Leben counters. Spinning backfist by Akiyama connects, then Leben lands a superman punch. Leben and Akiyama trade punches. Leben hurts Akiyama with a combination, then is hurt himself. After another wild exchange, Akiyama gets a takedown and presse Leben against the cage. Leben eats some punches, but works back to his feet. Akiyama tries for another takedown, but Leben grabs a guillotine. Akiyama escapes, and Leben connects as they exit. Leben hurts Akiyama with big punches, but Akiyama stays on his feet and they clinch against the fence to finish the round. scores the round for Leben 10-9, evening the fight at 19-19.

Round 3 – Leben appears to be the fresher fighter as we start round three. Akiyama lands a kick to the body, then Leben connects with punches before Akiyama takes him down again. Leben is active off his back with elbows, then goes for another armbar. It’s tight again, but Akiyama shakes free and gets to half guard near the fence. Akiyama passes to mount, but Leben gets back to half guard as he continues to punch from the bottom. Leben gets full guard, then they trade punches on the ground, with Leben seemingly connecting with the better shots. Akiyama tries to get free, but Leben throws elbows from the bottom. Leben locks on a triangle and forces Akiyama to tap.

Round 1 – After circling briefly, Lesnar shoots for an early takedown, but Carwin connects and Lesnar abandons it. Carwin connects again and Lesnar works for a takedown, but Carwin keeps on the pressure and drops Lesnar against the fence. Lesnar buys some time as he gets some space, but Carwin’s quickly back on time and bloodies Lesnar with punches from the half guard. Carwin stands and drops elbows, the tees off with more punches. Lesnar tries to cover up, but Carwin still connects with big shots. Lesnar finally gets Carwin under control in half guard. Carwin looks to pass, but Lesnar scrambles back to his feet and presses Carwin against the cage. Knees in the clinch by Carwin, followed by a knee from Lesnar. Lesnar works for a takedown in the final seconds, but Carwin stays on his feet. scores the round for Carwin 10-8.

Round 2 – Carwin appears tired and Lesnar looks for an opening to punch before getting his first takedown of the fight. Lesnar punches Carwin from half guard, then passes to mount, where he locks on an arm triangle. Carwin survives momentarily, but Lesnar adjusts and Carwin is forced to tap.
