Henry Cejudo Offers to “Welcome” T.J. Dillashaw to Flyweight Division

It’s not clear yet if Demetrious Johnson is going to take T.J. Dillashaw up on his challenge, but if he doesn’t, Henry Cejudo will throw down with the bantamweight champ.

Dillashaw has been calling for a bout with the flyweight champion for several months now, and after he took out Cody Garbrandt last month, he did so again. As this is being written, it’s not clear yet if Johnson is interested in the bout; earlier this year, the renowned fighter argued Dillashaw needed to score a win at 125 first.

Back to Cejudo, he’s preparing to fight Sergio Pettis tomorrow at UFC 218. But, while speaking to the media this week, the decorated wrestler issued the following warning to Dillashaw (quote via MMA Junkie):

“If Demetrious doesn’t fight T.J., I’ll welcome T.J. to the flyweight division,” Cejudo said. “Because I know what it’s like to cut 10 pounds, and I know how much that stuff hurts.

“I know if he’s going to take a crack at DJ, it’s a whole new ball game at 125. You’re not going to feel the same as at 135, and DJ seems to do very, very well at 125 pounds. So I wouldn’t mind welcoming him to the weight class as a home sweet homecoming for Dillashaw.”

Now, in reality, Dillashaw wouldn’t have any interest in fighting Cejudo likely, unless he’s holding the flyweight belt. But, these are interesting comments nonetheless. Cejudo faced Johnson in April, 2016, and was taken out in the opening round.
