Max Holloway entrenched his status tonight as the UFC’s best 145’er, as the Hawaiian fighter took out Jose Aldo for a second time.
Holloway punished Aldo with his jab from the early going, but the former champ continued to fire back, and landed several leg kicks. By round three, Aldo appeared to be fading, and Holloway stepped up his attacks, and proceeded to finish the fight with a flurry of strikes.
Aldo and Holloway met for the first time in June, and the latter also scored a stoppage win.
In the co-headliner, Francis Ngannou almost certainly locked up a bout with heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic, by defeating Alistair Overeem. Ngannou decked Overeem with a booming left upper cut in the opening round, which KO’d the decorated heavyweight instantly.
The wrestling game of Henry Cejudo proved to be the deciding factor against flyweight contender Sergio Pettis, as the former Olympic Gold Medalist worked his way to a decision win.
Fans and observers have been buzzing about a fight between Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje for weeks, and the lightweight’s didn’t disappoint. As expected, the two hurled plenty of strikes at each other, but Alvarez got the better of more of the exchanges.
In round three, Alvarez floored Gaethje with a booming knee to the jaw, and finished the fight with shots from above.
