UFC 116 Medical Suspensions: Lesnar, Carwin Among 11 Fighters Suspended

Shane CarwinUFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and fellow headliner Shane Carwin are among 11 fighters who were today issued medical suspensions by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for their bouts at Saturday’s UFC 116 event in Las Vegas.

Lesnar has been suspended until August 18 for cuts suffered in his second-round submission of Carwin, who has been sidelined until September 2 for precautionary reasons.

The complete list of UFC 116 medical suspensions includes:

  • Brock Lesnar: Suspended until August 18 for right eyelid and left eyebrow lacerations
  • Shane Carwin: Suspended until September 2 for precautionary reasons
  • Chris Leben: Suspended until August 3 for a tough fight
  • Yoshihiro Akiyama: Suspended until August 18 for a tough fight
  • Stephan Bonnar: Suspended until August 18 for facial lacerations
  • Krzysztof Soszynski: Suspended until December 31 unless cleared by doctor for left thumb; minimum suspension until September 2
  • Kurt Pellegrino: Suspended until December 31 unless cleared by doctor for left knee; minimum suspension until August 18
  • Chris Tuchscherer: Suspended until December 31 unless cleared by doctor for hearing loss in left ear; minimum suspension until September 2 for right cheek laceration
  • Ricardo Romero: Suspended until December 31 unless cleared by doctor for broken jaw; minimum suspension until September 2
  • Seth Petruzelli: Suspended until December 31 unless cleared by doctor for right elbow strain; minimum suspension until September 2
  • Dave Branch: Suspended until September 2 for precautionary reasons
