Fedor Emelianenko Won’t Rematch Fabricio Werdum Next, Could Fight Alistair Overeem

Fedor EmelianenkoDespite Fedor Emelianenko‘s M-1 Global management insisting on an immediate rematch with Fabricio Werdum, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker dismissed the matchup to Sherdog and said a non-title bout with heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem could be next for Emelianenko.

Coker said other potential opponents include Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Sergei Kharitonov.

Werdum submitted Emelianenko in just 69-seconds on June 26 to snap the former top-ranked heavyweight’s nearly 10 year, 28 fight win streak. Both fighters had hoped for an immediate rematch, but Werdum could be sidelined for the rest of the year to recover from likely elbow surgery.

Fedor’s next Strikeforce bout will complete his current deal with the promotion, but as both sides sit down to discuss his next matchup, Strikeforce hopes to reach a new deal to keep Emelianenko.
