UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will defend the 170-pound title in a rematch against opposing Ultimate Fighter 12 coach Josh Koscheck on December 11, a pay-per-view event which is expected to be UFC 123 or UFC 124.
“Can’t wait until TUF 12 airs in September, and oh yeah did you guys know that I am going to be the next welterweight champion come December 11th,” Koscheck announced on Twitter overnight.
MMAFrenzy.com previously reported that Toronto and Pittsburgh were under consideration to host the event, but now appear unlikely as Toronto has yet to legalize mixed martial arts, while Pittsburgh’s CONSOL Energy Center is booked with a pair of NCAA basketball games.
St-Pierre rebounded from an upset loss to Matt Serra with a unanimous decision over Koscheck in their first meeting in August 2007 and has since extended his win streak to seven-straight, reclaiming the title and defending it over the likes of BJ Penn, Thiago Alves, and Dan Hardy most-recently in March.
After being upset by newcomer Paulo Thiago for his second loss in three bouts, Koscheck has won three-straight over Frank Trigg, Anthony Johnson, and Paul Daley in May to earn a shot at the title.
