UFC veteran Yoshiyuki Yoshida will make his Bellator debut against an opponent to-be-announced at Bellator 31 on September 30 for the chance to earn a spot in the promotion’s season 4 welterweight tournament.
Yoshida (11-5), who holds a notable win over Dan Hardy, won two of his first three UFC fights over War Machine and Brandon Wolff, but suffered a first-round KO to Josh Koscheck and was released in May after dropping back-to-back bouts to Anthony Johnson and Mike Guymon.
“For me, this is a new challenge,” Yoshida said in a release. “There are many great fighters in Bellator so I am really looking forward to this opportunity. I really like American fans and it’s my dream to keep fighting in the States. After the September fight, my focus will be solely on winning the Welterweight Tournament. Until then, I’m taking this one fight at a time.”
In other Bellator news, veteran Jeremy Horn will face Bellator season two middleweight tournament runner-up Bryan Baker at Bellator 30 on September 30.
