Former IFL champion Jay Hieron (19-4) has signed an exclusive deal with Bellator Fighting Championships despite previous reports that Hieron would return to the UFC after departing Strikeforce.
“It’s just a great fit for me,” Hieron said in a release” At this point in my career, I want to stay as active as possible, and the tournament format allows me to do that. It’s a great organization, and it’s just the perfect fit.”
The Xtreme Couture product last fought in January where he defeated UFC vet Joe Riggs at Strikeforce: Miami.
Hieron will be joining the Bellator season four welterweight tournament along with Dan Hornbuckle, Rick Hawn, Jim Wallhead, Steve Carl, Chris Lozano, and Brent Weedman for the chance to fight champion Ben Askren.
