Strikeforce heavyweight Herschel Walker will return to action in late-January, but at this tie no opponent has been named for the January 29th Strikeforce event slated for San Jose, California, according to ESPN.com.
Walker was set to fight December 4th before a knee from training partner Daniel Cormier cut the 48-year-old, requiring eight stitches. Walker has said that he remained at AKA to further prepare once his stitches were removed.
While some doubted Walker’s motives when he first announced he would fight, few can argue his commitment. The former Olympian, football star, and Heisman winner has approached the sport with the same hard work and dedication that made him an elite running back by diligently working with some of the best in the sport.
“When guys are in the gym, they’re learning, Continuing to train when I don’t have a fight allows me to relax,” Walker told ESPN of having more time to prepare. “Every fight I have I want to make it exciting”
