Middleweight slugger Robbie Lawler has signed a new multi-year deal to remain with Strikeforce before he challenges 185-champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza on Jan. 29 in San Jose, the promotion announced today.
“Strikeforce has treated me good and I am happy to re-sign with them,” Lawler said in a release. “They have given me an opportunity to fight for the title and I’m looking forward to that and to fighting any and all of the top 185-pounders.”
Lawler (20-6), a two-time former title-holder, knocked out veteran Matt Lindland in just 50-seconds earlier this month to improve to 2-2 in Strikeforce and earn a title shot.
The deal comes after Strikeforce also re-signed welterweight champ Nick Diaz to a new multi-year contract before he headlines the Jan. 29 Showtime event against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos.
