The Ultimate Fighter 13 Changes to Welterweights Only, Coaches to be Named This Week

While originally slated to feature both welterweights and middleweights, the thirteenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” will now be exclusively welterweights when it begins taping later this month for a March 30 debut on Spike TV.

The show will reportedly still use the same format in recent years with 28 fighters battling for the 14 slots on the cast, followed by a 16-man bracket with two of the opening round losers matched up in a “wild-card” fight.

While many names have been thought to be possible TUF coaching candidates, the UFC has yet to announce anything, though that is also expected to change this week, according to MMAJunkie.

With Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson at UFC 130 removing a rubber match between Mir and Brock Lesnar from contention, lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, who are also slated to meet at UFC 130, now seem to be the most-likely option.
