Strikeforce’s Tim Kennedy: Nobody Wants to Fight Me

Tim KennedyCurrent Strikeforce middleweight contender and U.S. Army sniper, Tim Kennedy, likely isn’t the type of guy to ever back down from a challenge.

That’s probably why he finds it so frustrating that he is having trouble even securing an opponent for his next fight.

According to, Kennedy has had several opponents turn down fights with him recently and states that he’s “super frustrated”:

“It’s absolutely atrocious. Strikeforce approached me for the December and January card. I said, ‘definitely, just give me a name and I’ll take the fight.’ Benji Radach was the name, I said yes. Then they tell me he doesn’t want to fight me. Joey Villasenor was another name, but I understand him saying no because we trained at Jackson’s gym together. Matt Lindland was another guy who said no. Robbie Lawler has turned me down three or maybe four times. They asked Melvin Manhoef to fight me and he said ‘[expletive] no.’”

“I’m super frustrated with it. This is a pugilistic sport, is it not? It is the nature of the sport to fight each other, but nobody wants to fight me. Do I say, ‘Screw it, give me my uniform back, give me my long gun back and I’ll go back on the sniper range’? Or do I keep waiting these guys out until, in a battle of attrition, somebody gives up and says ‘Tim is the only guy who I can fight, so I’ll take that’?”

Kennedy, who most recently competed at Strikeforce: Houston in August losing a unanimous decision to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza for the Strikeforce middleweight title, was set to compete at Strikeforce: Diaz vs Cyborg against Jason “Mayhem” Miller. For unknown reasons, that bout failed to come together as well.

Kennedy joined the U.S. Army in 2004 despite being on his way to enjoying a successful MMA career. Kennedy became an elite member of the Green Berets and has served in the Middle East multiple times.

Kennedy holds a record of 12-3 in MMA including wins over Miller, Nick Thompson, and Trevor Prangley.
