A rumored rematch between former light heavyweight champs Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans is off for UFC 130, and Jackson is now expected to face Matt Hamill at the May 28 event in Las Vegas, according to MMA Weekly.
Jackson was originally scheduled to fight Thiago Silva at UFC 130 before questions over Silva’s UFC 125 drug test pushed Evans into the matchup just days after withdrawing from a UFC 128 title fight against against champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Hamill had been booked to face Phil Davis at UFC 129, but the matchup was recently pulled from the official fight card for the April 30 event in Toronto.
Jackson (31-8) rebounded from a loss to Evans last May with a decision over former champ Lyoto Machida in November, while Hamill (10-2) salvaged a DQ over Jon Jones before earning wins over Keith Jardine and Tito Ortiz in 2010.
Meanwhile, Silva has said one of his UFC 125 samples tested positive for a banned substance, while another came back clean, prompting the UFC to pull him from the bout with his samples still being processed.
The UFC 130 fight card is headlined by lightweight champ Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard and also features Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann, Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson, and Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story.
