The revolving door of match ups for UFC 129 in Toronto continues as UFC light heavyweight Jason Brilz is now expected to face veteran fighter Vladimir Matyushenko.
Jason Brilz was initially a replacement fighter on the event, himself, replacing Matt Hamill in a bout against undefeated Phil Davis. Hamill was pulled from the event in order to replace Thiago Silva in a bout against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 130 in May.
But when Tito Ortiz pulled out of his upcoming UFC Fight Night 24 main event against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira this past weekend, Davis was also pulled from UFC 129 in order to fill in for Ortiz.
That left Brilz without an opponent.
Now, however, MMAjunkie reports that 30-fight veteran Matyushenko is slated to face Brilz on April 30.
Matyushenko is coming off a first round TKO win over Alexandre Ferreira at UFC 122 this past November. Since his return to the UFC in 2009, the 40-year old fighter has gone 3-1 with his lone loss coming against number one contender Jon Jones last August.
Brilz has been out of action for nearly nine months while recovering from a back injury suffered this past fall. He most recently lost a bout against Nogueira at UFC 114 last May. Nogueira edged out a controversial split decision in the bout which many thought belonged to Brilz.
UFC 129 takes place on April 30 from the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The event features a main event between UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Jake Shields.
Also, champion Jose Aldo takes on Mark Hominick for the UFC featherweight championship and Randy Couture battles Lyoto Machida.
