Champ Hector Lombard vs. Falaniko Vitale Non-Title Bout Slated for Bellator 44

Hector LombardBellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard will return to the cage in a non-title bout set for Bellator 44 against UFC veteran Falaniko Vitale.

The event is scheduled for May 14 with an Atlantic City, New Jersey location rumored according to Sherdog.

Lombard has dominated the competition over the past several years having not lost a fight since 2006.

Since his last loss to Gegard Mousasi in 2006, the lone blemish on Lombard’s record is a draw against UFC competitor Kyle Noke in 2007.

Lombard is on a 16-fight win streak and has racked up 20 overall wins since the loss to Mousasi.

Vitale is on a 2-fight win streak earning two wins in 2010. The UFC and Strikeforce veteran owns wins over the likes of Matt Lindland, Yushin Okami, and Kalib Starnes over his nearly 11-year career.

Vitale will compete against Dylan Clay at an X-1 event on March 12. Vitale is the current X-1 middleweight champion and will defend his title against Clay prior to the Lombard bout.

Meanwhile, undefeated light heavyweight Tim Carpenter has joined Bellator’s fourth season 205 lbs tournament.

Carpenter will join Daniel Gracie, Nik Fekete, Chris Davis and D.J. Linderman in the tournament.

The 30-year old Carpenter has amassed a perfect 6-0 record since his professional debut in 2005. Three of his wins came via decision in 2010 including a win over Jamal Patterson in his Bellator debut at Bellator 33.
