Strikeforce’s K.J. Noons is dropping back to the lightweight division after falling to Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz this past October, Noons recently confirmed to MMAWeekly.
Noons (10-3) returned in 2010 after a nearly 2-year break from mixed martial arts and won back-to-back catchweight bouts, then returned to lightweight over Jorge Gurgel last August before immediately moving up to 170-pounds to rematch Diaz.
Noons expects to compete on the April 9 Strikeforce event, which was slated to feature the second leg of Strikeforce’s heavyweight grand prix tournament that are now not expected until June.
Recent reports, however, suggest that the event will instead feature Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley in a welterweight title bout and Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez defending versus Tatsuya Kawajiri.
