Martin Kampmann and Diego Sanchez fought to a bloody and controversial decision in Thursday’s UFC on Versus 3 main event to earn “Fight of the Night” honors and $160,000 bonuses each for their efforts.
UFC President Dana White originally awarded both fighters $60,000, $20,000 more than the planned $40,000 bonuses, before adding another $100,000 each, according to Yahoo.
Receiving a $40,000 “Knockout of the Night” bonus was Shane Roller for his vicious KO of Thiago Tavares. Tavares had Roller in trouble early but was unable to finish the former Oklahoma State wrestling standout in the first round. Roller rebounded in the second by landing a straight right in an exchange, sending Tavares to the canvas.
Brian Bowles earned “Submission of the Night” and $40,000 for his first-round guillotine of Damicio Page. In what was also the coincidence of the night, Bowles finished Page with the choke at the 3:30 mark of the first round, the exact same time and method used to finish Page in their first meeting in 2008.
