UFC 128 PLAY-BY-PLAY
MIRKO CRO COP VS. BRENDAN SCHAUB
Round 1 – Schaub rushes Cro Cop and lands several combinations. Cro Cop pushes back and clinches with Schaub, who reverses to the outside and they trade knees to the legs. Schaub is warned for punching the back of the head and they’re restarted. Schaub scores a takedown, but Cro Cop connects with an upkick before Schaub dives back into his guard. Cro Cop tries to tie up Schaub, but he gets free and lands some hard punches. After some more ground and pound, Cro Cop powers back to his feet and stuffs a takedown. Schaub works the body from the clinch and tries for another takedown, but Cro Cop gets outside and finishes with a good elbow. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round for Schaub 10-9.
Round 2 – Schaub goes for another quick start and swings with big punches that miss. Cro Cop throws a right head kick, but Schaub follows with a takedown near the fence. Cro Cop lands a big upkick, but is warned as Schaub still had a knee down. Another clinch, and they trade knees to the legs and body. They take turns pressing each other against the fence, with Schaub landing better shots but Cro Cop lands a powerful elbow. Schaub’s nose starts bleeding as they continue to fight for position and trade shots. Herb Dean suddenly steps in and Schaub loses a point for hitting the back of the head. They clinch again after a scramble and Schaub connects as they separate. Cro Cop lands another elbow and uppercut in another clinch before the bell. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-10, but it goes to Cro Cop 10-9 with the point deduction and we’ve got it even 19-19.
Round 3 – Cro Cop catches Schaub low to start the third. Cro Cop rushes forward after Schaub recovers, but Schaub scores a takedown. Schaub struggles to land much before Cro Cop scrambles up, but Schaub quickly gets another takedown. Cro Cop keeps Schaub tied up before he powers to half guard, but Cro Cop gets up again. Cro Cop looks for an opening for his left high kick, but has to defend a takedown instead. Cro Cop throws another high kick and a brief clinch follows. Cro Cop stuffs another takedown, but Schaub drops him with a right once they return to their feet and finishes with an unnecessary shot on the ground before referee Herb Dean can dive in.

NATE MARQUARDT VS. DAN MILLER
Round 1 – Miller lands the first punch, but Marquardt answers and quickly takes the fight to the ground. Marquardt tries for a guillotine, but Miller fends it off and stands. Miller gets a takedown of his own against the cage. Marquardt gets back to his feet, but Miller grabs a guillotine. It’s tight, but Marquardt escapes into Miller’s guard and powers free for several strong punches. Miller ties him up, and they’re restarted on the feet. Marquardt lunches with a punch, then picks Miller up for a takedown. Miller grabs the neck again, then attacks the arm, but Marquardt survives both and finishes the round with a few punches. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round for Marquardt 10-9.
Round 2 – Miller fires a leg kick to start the second and Marquardt follows with a combo and head kick. Marquardt attacks the body and avoids an uppercut. Marquardt jumping in with punches as Miller struggles to connect. Marquardt follows a head kick with a flying knee that Miller turns into a takedown. Miller can’t get Marquardt into a good position, and Marquardt attacks getting back to his feet. Marquardt lunges with several more rights before getting a takedown into side control. Miller grabs another guillotine, but Marquardt escapes again and drops some elbows to end the round on top. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round for Marquardt 10-9, putting him up 20-18.
Round 3 – Marquardt begins the second with another right and head kick, then both fighters fire combinations. Leg kick by Marquardt with Miller’s now bleeding near his eye. After a lull, Marquardt connects with another right and Miller counters. Right connects again for Marquardt, who then stuffs a takedown. Marquardt reverses into Miller’s guard and breaks free for a string of elbows. Miller gets to the cage and tries for a kimura, but Marquardt easily defends and continues to ground and pound. Miller tries for a last-second triangle, but Marquardt escapes as the round ends. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round for Marquardt 10-9, giving him the fight 30-27.

JIM MILLER VS. KAMAL SHALORUS
Round 1 – Miller and Shalorus come out swinging heavy punches, but little connects early. Shalorus mixes in a leg kick, then they trade more punches before settling in. Shalorus’ eye swells before getting Miller down briefly and letting him back up. Miller connects with a leg kick, but Shalorus is unfazed. Miller pulls guard, but Shalorus does little from the top and they’re restarted. They end the round with another exchange. MMAFrenzy.com scores the first for Miller 10-9.
Round 2 – Miller and Shalorus come out swinging again with hard punches. Shalorus kicks the leg and Miller answers with punches. Shalorus ducks a combo and gets a takedown, but lets Miller return to his feet. Miller follows a leg kick with a takedown and immediately takes Shalorus’ back. Miller gets a body triangle and punches the head as he tries for the rear naked choke, but Shalorus protects his neck and survives the round. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round for Miller 10-9, putting him up 20-18.
Round 3 – Miller and Shalorus trade combinations again to begin the third. Shalorus gets hit low as he shoots for a takedown, and they go back to striking on the restart. Miller hurts Shalorus with an uppercut, drops him with a follow-up, and finishes him with ground and pound.

URIJAH FABER VS. EDDIE WINELAND
Round 1 – Faber ties Wineland up to start the fight, but Wineland settles in and controls Faber in the clinch. Faber and Wineland try for takedowns, but they’re both stuffed and they separate. Faber briefly trips Wineland down, but they stand back in the clinch. Faber avoids a trip, then tries for a takedown of his own but it’s stopped again. Wineland gets Faber’s back and slams him down, but they immediately stand. Wineland keep his distance with punches, but Faber sneaks through some hooks. Winleland stuffs another pair of takedowns. Wineland counters a leg kick with a right. Faber answers with a pair of rights that connect and they circle to end the round. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-10.
Round 2 – Wineland tries to find his range and Faber attacks with a pair of body kicks. Wineland lunging with punches, but they come up short. Faber avoids Wineland’s combos, but hasn’t found much offense of his own. Faber grabs a leg and trips Wineland down. Faber postures up with ground and pound. Faber picks Wineland up and slams back down, then connects with more elbows. Faber in control from the top with more ground and pound, then stops a scramble. Faber attacks with elbows from both sides, but Wineland avoids worse damage. Another slam by Faber followed by hard elbows to close out the round. MMAFrenzy.com gives Faber the second 10-9, putting him up 20-19.
Round 3 – Wineland looks for an opening to start the third, but Faber avoids most of his punches and counters with one of his own. Faber shoots for another takedown, but Wineland clinches. Faber reverses and Wineland escapes back to the center of the cage. Faber closes in again, but Wineland clinches. Faber powers away before Wineland can do much. Faber picking his punches carefully and tags Wineland with two-minutes to go. Wineland initially fends off another takedown, but Faber follows through and gets him down with one minute left. CHAMPION MAURICIO “SHOGUN” RUA VS. JON JONES
UFC Light Heavyweight Championship
Round 1 – Jones opens with a flying knee that’s block and follows up with a pair of kicks. Jones trips Shogun again the fence and goes to work from half-guard. Shogun looks for a triangle and Jones returns to guard, then Jones attacks the neck before posturing up for ground and pound. Jones elbows Rua against the fence as Shogun struggles to control him. Jones attacks the body. Shogun slowly works back to his feet, but Jones hurts him with knees and a combo. Jones lands more knees, followed by a right and kick to the knee. Shogun lands a combo with 30 seconds to go and drops for a leg kick, but loses position and give up guard. Jones finishes the opening round on top, and MMAFrenzy.com gives him the round 10-9.
Round 2 – Rua checks a leg kick from Jones, but a push kick has him backs him away. Jones rocks Rua with a spinning back elbow, but the champ stays on his feet. Jones tries to chop him down with a leg kick, then one to the body. Rua looks tired, but presses forward and eats a knee to the body. Jones blasts Rua as he moves in and follows it up with more shots. Jones trips Shogun from a kick and drops elbows from Rua’s guard. Jones passes to half-guard and continues to pound Rua with compact elbows, then hammer fists. Shogun can’t escape from the bottom with 30-seconds left and Jones closes the round with more ground and pound and a leg lock try. MMAFrenzy.com scores the second for Jones 10-8, putting him up 20-17.
Round 3 – Jones attacks Rua with punches to begin the third. Rua gets a takedown off a missed kick and goes for a leg, but Jones reverses into his guard again. Jones unloads with ground and pound and Rua is hurt as he staggers to his feet. Jones drops Rua with a final combination against the fence and is the NEW UFC light heavyweight champion.
