Canadian mixed martial artists Jason MacDonald and Joe Doerksen will rematch at UFC 84 in Montreal on April 19th according to RDS.ca. It is not known if the fight will be broadcast.
UFC 84, the UFC’s first ever Canadian event, is rumored to include Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Serra, Rich Franklin vs. Travis Lutter, and Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves.
In their first meeting MacDonald topped Doerksen after securing a fight-ending rear naked choke during the fourth round of their fight at UCW 3 “Caged Inferno” in 2005.
MacDonald (19-9 MMA, 3-2 UFC) made his UFC debut in late-2006 submitting Ed Herman midway through the first round. He next fought Chris Leben at UFC 66 defeating The Ultimate Fighter contestant via submission late in round 2. In his third UFC bout MacDonald was defeated by former middleweight champion Rich Franklin after his corner called for a stop to the fight as the result of a cut. He returned victoriously at UFC 72 in June defeated Rory Singer via TKO. In his last UFC fight MacDonald was defeated via unanimous decision at the hands of Yushin Okami at UFC 77 in October.
Doerksen (38-10 MMA, 1-4 UFC) has been unable to translate his success outside of the UFC into wins inside the octagon. Since 2004 Doerksen has fought in the UFC 5 times while also fighting in other promotions including the IFL and WEC. He is currently coming off of back-to-back losses. After being defeated by highly ranked middleweight Paulo Filho at WEC 29 in August of 2007, Doerksen was defeated by Ed Herman at UFC 78 in November.
Sam Stout, Partick Cote, and Jonathan Goulet are also confirmed to appear on the card barring injuries though their opponents remain uncertain pending upcoming bouts.
