Episode six of The Ultimate Fighter 13 aired Wednesday on Spike TV, featuring the sixth opening round matchup of the welterweight tournament coached by former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar and fellow contender Junior dos Santos.
After rebounding from back-to-back losses with Clay Harvison’s win last week, Team Lesnar is rejuvenated and learns that injuries to Harvison and top-pick Len Bently, who lost on episode three, are less serious than originally thought.
The same can’t be said for Team dos Santos, however, as the head coach is forced to dismiss wrestling coach Lew Polley after they clash yet again on how the team should be coached.
With just two fights left, Team Lesnar controls both matchups and chooses Tony Ferguson (Lesnar’s third-pick) to face Justin Edwards, leaving Chuck O’Neil to take on Zach Davis (dos Santos’ fifth-pick).
In the opening round matchups, Ferguson knocks out Edwards with an upkick in the opening-round, while Davis forces O’Neil to tap to a triangle choke in the first.
Before the episode ends, UFC President Dana White meets with the coaches and fighters to make the wild card picks, and chooses Javier Torres from Team dos Santos against Team Lesnar’s O’Neil, who meet next week for the final quarterfinal spot.
