UFC President Dana White announced today that exciting bantamweights Damacio Page (15-6) and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto (18-4) have verbally agreed to face each other at UFC 135 on September 24 in Denver, Colorado.
White expects an all out brawl as he described the fighters as “two of the most aggressive sluggers in the always-exciting bantamweight division.”
Both Page and Yamamoto are at a crossroads in their career. The heavy-handed Page is on a two fight slide thanks to the likes of Brian Bowles and Demetrious Johnson and has not tasted victory since submitting Will Campuzano in October of 2009. Popular Japanese import Yamamoto dropped his UFC debut to Johnson by decision at UFC 126. The former K-1 Heroes tournament champion has lost three of his last four, including a decision to Bellator champion Joe Warren. “Kid” holds impressive victories over Rani Yahya, Bibiano Fernandes, and Caol Uno.
There has been no word on whether this fight will be placed on the main or preliminary portion of the event.
The UFC 135 fight card is expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight title bout between champion Jon Jones and Quinton Jackson, as well as a welterweight battle between Matt Hughes and Diego Sanchez.
