After successfully making his featherweight debut this past Saturday at UFC 131, Kenny Florian earned a title shot at 145-pound champion Jose Aldo and the UFC is targeting the matchup for October, Aldo recently announced.
“I think it’ll be a tough fight. I don’t doubt that,” Aldo recently said on Brazilian TV (via ESPN). “Florian’s name and reputation in the U.S. will make this fight marketable, so I think he’ll be my next opponent, probably in October.”
Aldo (19-1) topped Mark Hominick in his UFC debut in April after dominating in the WEC, but was forced to postpone an August title defense against Chad Mendes, while Florian (15-5) moved down to his fourth weight class with a unanimous decision over Diego Nunes after losing to lightweight contender Gray Maynard in August.
