Jon Fitch has been sidelined since a February draw to BJ Penn after shoulder surgery forced him out of a July rematch, but the welterweight contender’s return to the gym and eventually the Octagon is fast approaching.
“Great news. I will be cleared to start training camp sept 1st. I’ll be more than ready for UFC in San Jose,” Fitch Tweeted on Tuesday.
UFC 138 takes place on November 19 in San Jose, the home of American Kickboxing Academy and the likes of Fitch and UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, who’s expected to defend his title against Junior dos Santos in the main event of the UFC 138 fight card.
UFC President Dana White recently said no plans were set for Fitch, Penn, or fellow contender Jake Shields as the trio recovered from injuries.
A rematch between Fitch and Penn is a likely possibility, while Penn and Shields have also discussed a potential matchup.
