Marius Zaromskis and Hayato Sakurai Set To Rematch at Dream.17

Marius ZaromskisDream officials announced today that welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis (14-6) will meet Hayato “Mach” Sakurai (35-12-2) in a non-title rematch at “Dream.17: Japan GP Final” on July 16th.

The event will take place at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan.

Zaromskis and Sakurai first met in the semi-finals of the Dream Welterweight Grand Prix in July of 2009, with Zaromskis winning by first round knockout.  Zaromskis went on to defeat Jason High in the Grand Prix finals, earning him the welterweight title.

Since then, neither fighter has tasted much success.  Zaromskis is on a 2-3 slide with one no contest, dropping his last fight to Jordan Mein at theScore Fighting Series.  Zaromskis successfully defended the title against Kazushi Sakuraba, but was unsuccessful in Strikeforce bouts with Nick Diaz and Evangelista Santos.  Since the loss to Zaromskis, Sakurai has dropped three straight to High, Diaz, and Akihiro Gono.

North American broadcast plans have yet to be announced for the event, but stay tuned to for complete Dream coverage.
