Kennedy has been vocal about making this fight happen since before his fight with Melvin Manhoef and will finally get his chance in Chicago. The US Special Forces veteran is 13-3 in his career and 5-1 in Strikeforce, with the lone loss to middleweight champ Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza.
Lawler will be looking to bounce back from his January loss to Souza and has been hot and cold recently, with a record of 2-3 since entering Strikeforce.
Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson takes place on July 30 at the Sears Centre near Chicago. and is headlined by a bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson.
The Showtime-televised card will also feature Strikeforce women’s welterweight champion Marloes Coenen vs. Miesha Tate, Roger Gracie vs. Muhammed Lawal, and Evangelista Santos vs. Paul Daley.
