A matchup with Lyoto Machida may be off, but Chael Sonnen will still return to the Octagon at UFC 136, as he’s expected to square off with fellow middleweight contender Brian Stann in the co-main event of the October 8 event in Houston, Texas, according to Heavy.
Sonnen (25-11-1) will be returning to action for the first time in over a year following his suspension for failing a drug test and pleading guilty to money laundering after nearly dethroning middleweight champ Anderson Silva in August only to be submitted in the final round to snap a three-fight win streak.
Meanwhile, Stann (11-3) has won three-straight and 5 of his last 6, including knockouts of Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago in 2011.
UFC 136 is expected to be headlined by featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian.
