Chael Sonnen Opens as 2-to-1 Favorite Over Brian Stann at UFC 136

Chael SonnenChael Sonnen’s lengthy layoff has apparently had no effect on the oddsmakers, as he’s opened as the early favorite in his UFC 136 showdown with fellow middleweight contender Brian Stann.

In an appearance on MMAJunkie Radio, oddsmaker Joey Oddessa announced that Sonnen would open as -215 favorite, while Stann is a +175 underdog.

The controversial Sonnen (25-11-1) has been out of action for nearly a year as he was suspended by the California State Athletic Commission for numerous offenses.  Sonnen last saw action at UFC 117 last August, dominating champion Anderson Silva before succumbing to a triangle choke/armbar combination in the fifth round.

The ex-Marine Stann (11-3) is undefeated as a middleweight, defeating the likes of Mike Massenzio, Chris Leben, and Jorge Santiago.

UFC 136 takes place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on October 8th and is expected to be headlined by featherweight champ Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian.
