A middleweight bout between former top-contender Demian Maia and Jorge Santiago is the latest addition to the rapidly-filling UFC 136 fight card on October 8 in Houston, Texas. Maia announced the matchup on Friday.
Maia (14-2) earned wins over Mario Miranda and Kendall Grove following his unsuccessful challenge of champion Anderson Silva last year, but dropped a unanimous decision to Mark Munoz last month.
Santiago (23-9) vacated his middleweight title in Japan’s Sengoku promotion to return to the UFC, but suffered a second-round TKO to Brian Stann in the “Fight of the Night” at UFC 130 in May.
UFC 136 is expected to be headlined by featherweight champ Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian along with Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann, while Mike Russow vs. Dave Herman and Josh Grispi vs. Matt Grice were also recently announced.
