UFC 85: Marcus Davis vs. Mike Swick
- By: Kris Karkoski | Feb 28, 2008
Welterweight contenders Mike Swick and Marcus Davis will face off at UFC 85 in London on June 14th, according to a report by MMA Mania.
Swick (11-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) started his professional career with five straight victories before losing to fellow-Ultimate Fighter 1 cast member Chris Leben at WEC 8. Despite the loss, Swick was still cast for the debut season of the reality series as a light heavyweight but was defeated by Stephan Bonnar in a semi-final matchup. Swick emerged as a middleweight contender following the series with consecutive victories against Alex Schoenauer, Gideon Ray, Steve Vigneault, Joe Riggs, and David Loiseau. A loss to Yushin Okami at UFC 69 halted Swick’s momentum in the middleweight division, ultimately causing him to drop down to the 170-pound welterweight division.
In his welterweight debut he defeated Josh Burkman via majority decision at UFC Fight Night 12 in January.
Davis (14-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) began his career as a professional boxer compiling a 17-1-2 record. Davis, the number-one ranked super middleweight in New England, suffered a knockout loss to Ed Bryant in 2000 which caused him to transition to mixed martial arts. Following a 3-2 start to his MMA career, Davis was cast as a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 2. He was defeated by eventual winner Joe Stevenson in the opening round of the series. On the finale of the season Melvin Guillard defeated Davis via TKO due to a cut.
Following a five-fight win streak outside the UFC, Davis returned to the promotion in late-2006 with a first-round submission win over Forrest Petz. He then secured UFC victories against Shonie Carter, Pete Spratt, Jason Tan, Paul Taylor, and most-recently Jess Liaudin at UFC 80 in January. With a six-fight octagon winning streak and eleven-straight wins overall “The Irish Hand Grenade” has emerged as a title contender in the stacked welterweight division.

Well I was going to say Swick would walk over Davis, but i was very disappointed in his welterweight debut win over Josh Burkman. Swick will win, only if he returns to his Quick style.

Swick should get the win, hes to strong for Davis and the grenade hasn’t had any contenders like Swick yet, hopefully Swick will finish it.

THIS COULD END IN THE FIRST ROUND
I THINK DAVIS MIGHT KNOCK HIM OUT.I LIKE BOTH FIGHTERS BUT SWICK DID NOT LOOK GOOD AT ALL IN HIS LAST FIGHT AND I THINK THE UFC GAVE HIM THAT WIN OVER BURKMAN

I dont see Swick being any stronger than Davis. I know most people would think just the opposite because Swick has fought at 205 and more recently 185 but he loses strength with that weight too. In his only 170lb. fight he merely got by Burkman.I see Swick getting caught by a hard hitting Davis in the 1st. KO

Swick has fought Okami, Burkman, and he trains on a daily basis with Koscheck, and Fitch. I like Marcus Davis, but he has only fought lower tier guys. He is no match for Mike Swick. I do expect an entertaining fight.

this would be a really good fight. Swick wasn’t spectacular when he fought Burkman but in this fight he would have no choice but too swing because that’s the type of fight Davis brings. Swick is my favorite UFC fighter and I’m 98% sure Swick will beat Davis. Reason being because I’ve watched many of Marcus’ fights and he has a week chin, but he does recover really fast. It would be a crazy fight, but in the end I think Swick is just a better fighter, he’s faster, stronger, and has fought way tougher guys.
