ShoXC Recap, Results, and Photos

Chuck LiddellIn an effort to steal some eyes away from the landmark EliteXC-CBS Broadcast on May 31st, Spike TV has scheduled a two hour “Ultimate Iceman” special to air on Saturday, May 31st, beginning at 9PM ET. The tribute to “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell will be immediately followed by “Liddell vs. Silva: UFC Unleashed Special Edition”, which will highlight Liddell’s most recent conquest over fellow 205-pound contender and long-time rival Wanderlei Silva.

In case you were worried about not having any MMA to watch between breakfast, lunch, and dinner, fear not. According to the UFC’s broadcast calendar, Spike TV will actually be airing a whole days worth of UFC programming starting at 11:00 AM.

The first ever network broadcast of MMA as part of EliteXC’s “Saturday Night Fights” will air live on CBS from 9-11PM.

Well now, if the UFC really isn’t at all that concerned with the potential draw of “Saturday Night Fights” then this would all be one hell of a coincidence, wouldn’t it. Of course if you are at all like me and don’t want to miss any of the MMA being aired on the 31st, there exists a very simply solution: Free up some room in the DVR, and watch the program of your choice later. My later choice would have to be the UFC specials for this instance. Sorry Dana, but for me you just can’t beat the words “live” “network” “MMA” and “free.” Not to mention the love/hate mega attraction that is, Kimbo Slice.

  1. Dannyboy says:

So ya think Thompson will come charging out after Kimbo for this fight? He hasn’t had a good win since he somehow managed to beat Don Frye in PRIDE. I hope to see some ground skills out of Kimbo or I fear this site will again begin it’s “HATE” relationship with Slice. I for one, will be rooting for him to take him down and submit him. :)

Make sure all of you tell your friends with a Nielson ratings indicator box to watch CBS on May 31st!

  2. mike, troy NY says:

for 1 the main event of elite xc is lawler who was knocked out by diaz back when they were in the ufc, so it just seems like 2nd rate fighters are in other organizations rather then the UFC…and kimbo is fighting another bum…i have seen kimbo knock out bums before im getting actually bored of it…when he fiths some1 worth watchin then i will watch….till then i would even rather watch legit fighters even if there re-runs

  3. Mikew says:

Any fighter who gets in there and lays it on the line is a legit fighter, all fighters lose some time, including UFC fighters, any real MMA fan in my opinion would rather watch live fights than a documentary or re-runs over and over.
To say Robbie Lawler is a second rate fighter is absurd, if you limit yourself only to the UFC brand than you are missing out on a lot of action.

  4. KOuch says:

    Mikew,
There is a difference between a legit fighter and legit “MMA” fighter. Kimbo is not a legit MMA fighter. Miketroy is not far off about 2nd rate fighters in other promotions. I am well aware of the talent in other promotions but like I said before, the UFC has the vast majority of prime talent. Especially with the cutting of fighters as of late to make room for up and comers or other promotions stars. You are correct that people will be missing out by not watching other promotions but that does not change the fact most other promotions are full of 2nd rate fighters. Besides, the UFC is obviously the leader because every time another promotion has a former UFC fighter on their card, the promotion cannot help but mention it over and over that a former UFC fighter is on their fight card. Elite XC is still a joke.

  5. sgtrocknroll says:

It’s not that I hate Kimbo, hell I don’t even know the guy. It’s the fact that Elite is pushing this guy as if he’s really done something. I’ve seen him fight twice in a cage and against real, real bums (Tank having not won a fight in along time, as he was looking for the floor as soon as he could). I’d like to see him on the Ultimate Fighter series, like “street fighters 2nd chanc” show or “bald guys make a comeback”.
Until he fights a legitmate MMA fighter, give it a rest.
