“The Ultimate Fighter 7″ Episode 7 Recap

  • By: Kris Karkoski | May 15, 2008

The Ultimate Fighter 7For the first time this season Team Rampage has control and selects Gerald Harris (7-2) to take on Team Forrest’s Amir Sadollah (0-0).

The fight quickly commences and Harris gets the early advantage with a takedown. Harris controls the pace in the opening frame, controlling his opponent and using several slams and some ground and pound to take to first round.

In the second round it’s much of the same from Harris but at the midway point Sadollah starts to connect and lands a knee to the head that drops Harris. Sadollah pounces and lands a combination on his downed opponent forcing the referee stoppage. Harris immediately protests the decision, claiming he wasn’t knocked out, but it’s too little too late as the referee’s decision stands.

With Team Forrest in control yet again they select Cale Yarbrough (0-0) to face Team Rampage’s Patrick Schultz (7-1-1), who was eliminated from the competition in the round of 32 but invited back as a replacement for Paul Bradley.

It’s a standup battle in the opening round with Schultz seemingly having the upper hand after connecting with a string of rights to likely take the round on the judge’s scorecards. Yarbrough, though, takes round two with a ground and pound assault and we appear destined for a third and decisive round. The coaches, though, express surprise when they learn that the judges have rendered a decision. After some banter over how they declared a winner with each round seemingly having a clear cut winner on the scorecards, the winner is announced and it’s Cale Yarbrough defeating Patrick Schultz via majoirity decision

The lopsided battle wages on as Team Forrest goes up 6-1 in the competition. Next week it’s Team Rampage’s top pick, CB Dollaway, against Team Forrest’s Nick Klein in the final opening round bout.

Dont you love it how Schultz decided to spout off to someone who is in the UFC and is proven, like Forrest as he is about to be announced the LOSER of the fight? Seriously…the guy needs to shut up…the guy lost….he did not win the 1st round… they traded blows…he might have landed a few more…but not significantly enough to overcome the 2 times he was taken down and manhandled on the ground….the judges were actually right on this one….

I would love to see Schultz spar with Forrest next episode…sure, I think Rampage will stomp Forrest too, but I wouldnt say crap….its like telling your boss at your job how to do his job as you are the lowly intern…

I just cant believe Harris lost…he was my pick to win the show…I have no idea now who will win, hopefully this CB is as good as advertised because im not really pumped about anyone yet… I just know I want Amir to get KO’d…he is too ****y…tries to make it come off as him just being funny…but he is too ****y for his own good bc he was being dominated by harris that whole fight and got a lucky knee at the end..i shouldnt say this, but i almost hope someone gets hurt and that opens the door for Harris to come back….if not, I cant wait until the finale to see who he fights…he will be tough in the UFC..

  2. 2girls1cup says:

i had to tivo the rest of the show so i can’t wait to see the 2nd fight. I can’t believe you don’t like Amir though. He’s prolly my favorite guy on there because he goes in and does what he can do instead of runnin his mouth. And I can’t agree that he got a lucky knee to land when the dude’s a kickboxer. it’s like saying the wrestler got a lucky take down. either way, i don’t think he’ll win but I like his style and think that he has alot of the basics needed to go far. He’s really composed for someone new to the sport. And again, he’s not a **** talker like certain fighters that I hate, cough..bisping..cough

  3. Jason N. says:

I say it was a lucky knee bc he was being dominated and was on his back for the most part, so it was a quick thing…wasnt drawn out…set up…but yea, its his forte….just lucky since he wasnt winning….

I dont like Amir because of his attitude… i mean, no he does not talk trash to others… but its still trash…just covered up as comedy… he is ****y…no other way to put it…i dont want a fighter to make me laugh…thats not the entertainment part im looking for when i watch.. i watch for solid fighters who want to fight, not want to make you laugh….to be honest… im mad he won not just bc i picked harris to win, but with harris in the next round, it would have made a better match up with whoever he faces….because Amir wont win it, and prob wont win his next fight….but hey, ive been wrong before…

  4. 2girls1cup says:

ya, it’s all opinion. personally, i thought they both did well in the fight with the edge goin to harris. this was probably the best fight so far, but amir did a good job trying to sprawl and get up. and when he did, he kept tryin to strike which is why i thought it wasn’t just luck. same goes for the personality, i don’t get the ****y aspect, i just take it as him bein a laid back funny type of guy. personally, i like it and think it brings a little somethin to the fights when a guy has a personalit like that. i.e. rampage, forest, brandon vera. i look forward to watching guys that are entertaining in the post fight stuff. i agree though, i’ll be suprised if he wins in the next round depending on who he fights of course.

  5. Jason N. says:

I guess i dont see his personality like Forrest or Rampage…maybe its just because I dont like Amir…but when Forrest and Rampage joke around.. it is funny…and I dont get that ****yness… like I do from Amir…almost like he wants attention…

But I will say, I would have pissed my pants if I was Forrest when Rampage was yelling at him saying I bet our fight doesnt go to the judges…but good to see next week it looks like they are passed it and joking around again…

I will agree that it was the best fight so far and that Amir was always trying to do something instead of roll around…grab onto him, etc… just sucks that Harris is out

  6. 2girls1cup says:

agreed, i would’ve liked to see both of these guys advance instead of lame ass dante. hopefully they bring harris back for something, either in the show or on one of the cards cuz he deserves it.

  7. Jason N. says:

ok…i agree…but enough agreeing…starting to make my stomach turn :)

  8. cincy says:

so glad that schultz is gone, dont think they’ll give him a third chance. and what a jacka**, where does he get off spouting off to forrest? he should just go frost his tips, gel his hair and piss off bc he wont ever make it. i like amir, funny personality. he wasnt denying he was the big underdog but went out there with a lot of heart and grit and took out harris which you’ve agreed is a tough fighter. you knew harris was going take him down and probably slam him a couple times which he did but amir kept striking when he had the opening. and that knee was not luck, he saw the opening and cracked him

  9. 2girls1cup says:

btw, how the f did harris make weight, the dude is gigantic.

  10. Dave says:

I thought Forrest was susposed to shave half his head what happened to that?

  11. 2girls1cup says:

k, so i watched the end of the 2nd fight finally. What a freakin douche. who loses the prelim fight, then gets lucky cuz i guy has neck herpes and then comes back and loses again, theeeeen has the balls to talk **** to Forest Griffen… a much bigger dude, a much more talented fighter, a nice guy, and the number 1 contender! Shultz is my new bisping!

  12. Kris says:

    Dave - Next week?

  13. Kris says:

2girls1cup - I think he was just talking **** to sort of back up what Rampage was saying to Griffin. The fight was far from the most controversial decision I’ve seen but it was pretty clear cut and probably should have gone another round and I think that played a big role in him talking the way he did.

  14. Kris says:

I think Harris definitely has a future in the sport. Big guy, good slams, and solid overall but just needs to round out his game and get some more experience but I can see him doing big things.

  15. Kris says:

I’m rooting for CB just because I don’t like the competition being so lopsided and almost all the fighters being from the same team. Takes a lot of the tension between the coaches away from the show and if they’re going to put the whole division on hold I at least want there to be some drama to hype the fight and make it worth it.

  16. Brandon says:

lol, lopsided? forrest has won what? 5 of 6? or 6 of 7? And honestly there are at least 2 guys in the team forrest side that should beat Rampages pretty boy. We’ll have to see

  17. rutdog says:

How could anyone not like that Amir dude? He’s funny, has 0 pro fights and beat a dude that was much bigger than him in the prelims and the fight the other night. I like that. Who calls themselves a fan of fight and don’t like him? Come on!!

  18. Kris says:

I think most people aren’t rooting against Amir but rather for other fighters. To me he just seemed rather bland and I think a lot of people just like some of the other cast members better than him.

  19. 2girls1cup says:

i’m with ya rutdog, amir to me is a pretty solid fighter given his inexperience but he’s also a good guy to watch on the show cuz his personality is pretty funny.

and kris, regarding the talking from frosty tips shultz, i’m kinda torn at this point cuz from watching the show, it seemed like a punk move cuz forest wasn’t doing anything but saying he’d go a third round which should’ve been taken as a compliment. so from that angle the guys a punkass and deserves both ass beatings he received. the other angle that i’m referring to is that he was interviewed and questioned about that and it sounded like there was some creative editing that may have made it look a little worse than it really was. apparently he went up to forest after and apologized which i think is cool. i wish more fighters that were involved in controversial decisions would be respectful after the fight…especially from the uk…..with a shaved head….. but they trian in big bear…. and they lost to rashad…. and their name rhymes with pissbing.

  20. jpm says:

Only just watched this episode as we are a few days behind in the uk. Patrick Schultz is the boy!! That was so funny when he trash talked Forrest. The amount of honour & respect for each other in mma is great to see but i think its even better when some complete no hoper of a dip**** like Schultz talks **** like he did.
