UFC Fight Night 15 Scheduled For September 17th

UFC Fight Night 15 will take place on September 17th and will be aired on Spike TV as the lead-in for the debut episode of The Ultimate Fighter 8, reports MMA Junkie.
No location has been determined for the event, though southeastern locations, specifically in Florida, are reportedly under consideration.
The UFC and Spike TV have used a similar lead-in strategy with other recent seasons of the reality series. UFC Fight Night 13, a stacked 13-bout card that featured a lightweight main event between contenders and TUF alumni Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon, served as the lead-in for The Ultimate Fighter 7’s debut episode and UFC Fight Night 11, featuring Kenny Florian taking on Din Thomas in the main event, served as the lead-in for the debut episode of The Ultimate Fighter 6.
The Ultimate Fighter 8 will feature a cast comprised of lightweight (155-pound) and light heavyweight (205-pound) fighters. Interim UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former champion Frank Mir will serve as coaches for the eighth season. The Ultimate Fighter 8 debuts on September 17th at 10pm ET.

I heard that Joe ‘daddy” Stevenson is the headliner for this. Could be true, altough he’s coming off a loss to BJ.

Look for Mac Danzig, Nate Diaz, Frank Edgar, Gray Maynard, Nate Quarry, Matt Hammil, Stephan Bonnar, the TUF 7 winner, Chris Leben, Karo Parisyan, Akihiro Gono, and Clay Guida. Plus a marquee fight.

It sucks we only will probably see 5 out of the 13 fights. Say they put all those names that Jason said on there, those are all fights I want to see. If they’re going to have this many fights on a card, they should add an hour to the show. They should also come up with a way to show the undercard fights we don’t see for free.

I doubt half those names wont be on this card… Danzig just won on PPV…why would he get “demoted” to a free tv show? He will be fighting either the MN PPV or the one after that… he is 1-2 fights away from the belt… i doubt Diaz will be on there too since all he does is fight the TV ones..and he wins…so he should get moved to the big show…though i could see the main event being Diaz vs Manny…I think Gray will next fight in MN…but who knows…all i do know is it better be as good if not better than the last fight night….they set a standard with that show, they cant do worse than that or it will be a disappointment!! (i thought the last fight night was the best they have had…or top 3 atleast)

It could become another 3 hour show but I don’t see that happening again right away. I expect the show to start at 8pm and the debut to start at 10.

I just put those names there because they are the guys that you often see at a Fight Night on SPIKE. They like to use TUF alumni on free TV since the people will know them. I’ll be interested to see. Possible a Diaz vs. Gamburyan re-match. Or even a season 6 winner vs. season 5 (diaz vs. danzig). Maybe Hammil vs. Bonnar that was scrapped earlier in the year. Time will tell and then you all can flatter me and tell me how smart I am :)

hopefully it will be able to live up to the tanner vs grove fight. also, i really like mike bisping. none of this is sarcasm, i swear it :/ haha

Everyone that I have spoken to seems to have some issue with Nogueira coaching this thing because of his english, but he actually speaks English pretty well. I am very intrigued to see him coach particularly the ground (obviously).
Frank Mir on the other hand is a publicity move since he beat the highly hyped and highly paid Brock “The Rock” Lesnar. Same thing happened with Forest Griffen when he upset Shogun (although the Shogun win was a much more shocking victory). I would not consider either of them (Mir or Griffen) to be in the top 5 in their respective weight classes (Big Nog I have as the #2 HW), but could make for good television.

since they got away from the coaches bein the same weight class as the fighters, i’d have liked to seen franklin and henderson as coaches. it seems like both of those guys would be good for the tv show aspect, and it’s a fight people wanna see so it would satisfy the real fight fans as well. maybe the next time around if they haven’t already fought by then.
