UFC 86 "Jackson vs. Griffin" Results

Frank ShamrockFormer UFC and Strikeforce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock has been announced as part of the broadcast team for EliteXC’s CBS debut on May 31st. Joining Shamrock in the broadcasting booth for the inaugural “Saturday Night Fights” broadcast will be veteran announcers Gus Johnson and Mauro Renallo.

EliteXC “Saturday Night Fights” takes place on May 31st at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The event marks the debut of mixed martial arts on network television as the main card will be broadcast from on CBS beginning at 9pm ET. The preliminary card will be streamed live on ProElite.com.

Shamrock (22-9-1), the adopted brother of fellow-UFC veteran Ken Shamrock, claimed the UFC’s middleweight (now light heavweight) title in late-1997 and reigned as the promotion’s champion for nearly two years before eventually forfeiting the belt following a win over Tito Ortiz in late-1999. He is 1-2 in his last three bouts, losing to Renzo Gracie via DQ, winning the Strikeforce middleweight title with a win over Phil Baroni, and most-recently lost the title to Cung Le in March.

Johnson, a veteran play-by-play announcer, is most well known for his announcing of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament.

Renallo is a well-known broadcaster among MMA fans, having called the PRIDE pay-per-view events from 2003 to 2006 as well as numerous EliteXC events.

    Ken Shamrock in my opinion has become a ” laughing stock ” . Very disappointing to keep seeing him loose like that.

    Frank in my opinion still has some juice left inside him, hes been in some competitive/action packed fights and hes a smart fighter business wise in my opinion……..

    I agree with Dirty, I think Frank still has some fight left in him plus he’s behind some successful businesses.

    We have an interview we just wrapped up with Frank that I am hoping to post by the end of today or early tomorrow so keep an eye out for it.

    Aleksander Emelianenko (Pictures) will fight Paul Buentello (Pictures) at Affliction’s debut event July 19 in Anaheim, Calif., the promotion announced Tuesday.

    Emelianenko, the younger brother of Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures), has won four straight bouts. He holds a record of 13-3, with wins over Sergei Kharitonov (Pictures), Assuerio Silva (Pictures) and Pawel Nastula (Pictures).

    Buentello, 25-10, had also won four straight before Alistair Overeem (Pictures) defeated him in Strikeforce last November.

    Affliction also announced the signing of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (Pictures). The brother of UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Pictures), Rogerio is 13-3 in MMA. He fought most recently in February, stopping Todd Gouwenberg in the second round of a Hardcore Championship Fighting bout in Canada.
