Silva Moves Up to 205 to Battle Irvin in Live Spike Special on July 19th
Considered to be the best fighter on the planet, pound for pound, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will put that accolade to the test on Saturday, July 19th, when he makes his first UFC foray into the light heavyweight division against knockout artist James ‘The Sandman’ Irvin.
This bout is the main event of a special UFC Fight Night telecast that will put the game’s best in living rooms around America for free, courtesy of Spike TV.
Tickets for Silva vs Irvin, which will take place at The Palms in Las Vegas, go on sale Saturday, June 21st, at 1pm PT. UFC Fight Club members will be able to participate in a special presale on Friday, June 20th, beginning at 10am PT.
The full July 19th card, which features a full lineup of intriguing bouts featuring the sport’s top contenders and a host of rising stars, will be announced shortly.

nothing..he’ll keep his title until someone beats him for it. Dan henderson did this in pride fighting…he won the mw belt and then started fighting lhw until he won that belt…I don’t see silva winning two belts tho…especially with all the talent in the 205 division….Silva will eventually get KO’d by someone…its inevitable…
What are the early odds? I know Irvin’s an underdog but he’s not exactly the worst LHW in America.

For those of us who bought tickets for UFC86, with one good fight on the card, this card is a slap in the face. Dana seems more concerned with giving the finger to another MMA group than delivering for the core fans.

Silva is the best fighter in the ufc PERIOD. Where is all the hate coming from? is it because he can’t speak english or something silly like that.. How many more lesser opponents must he pummel before people start seeing just how good this guy really is.

whats the deal with everyone hating on silva? its not like the guy is a chump or has faced second rate opponents. am i the only one here that thinks he’ll most likely rough up a few of the top guys at 205? he’s a world class striker with a solid ground game. who knows, maybe takin one on the chin by a biggon will put him on the mat, but my guess says that he’ll continue to drop bombs, even at 205. and whats wrong with michael bisping? not his fault the judges gave him one against hamil! u wanna hate on someone, hate on ortiz for dancing around machida for 15 min….

You are right. Silva is P4P the best fighter on the planet and moving up to LHW is his time to prove it. I still hope he eventually moves down and beats the $hit out of GSP. Are they announcing more fights Saturday at the fight night?

Geez that’s a scary thought. Silva bouncing up to 205 and getting a Ko over Forest or Rampage.Then defending once more at 185. Then dropping down for a showdown with GSP

Silva is the most bad ass dude on the planet. I seriously think he could pull a Rocky Marciano in each division once he gets the title.
GSP is the worst possible matchup for Silva in my oppinion. Silva’s takedown defense is horrible, GSP’s take downs are the best in the business. GSP’s BJJ def is fantastic and in striking the edge will go to Silva, but thats assuming they stay standing. When GSP wants a takedown he gets it. I’d also give the speed and power to GSP. Clinch to Silva
Silva has shown his ground game too. He beat Henderson on the ground. He also beat Lutter but Lutter doesn’t count as much. GSP is great but Anderson is still better in my opinion. Get the video game and we’ll find out online.

silva has beaten lutter and hendo. I think he can handle gsp.I not saying it would be easy but he would have a shot.Also I would like to add to KOuch comment, no way in hell silva would ever have 3 belts.maybe 2 but never 3
I dont think he could hold 3 belts .. But at the same time if anyone can I do believe he is the Man … His hardest problem would be weight

No channce Silva could hold 3 belts… NO CHANCE… This ani’t boxing and everyone knows in MMA there’s always a kryptonite! Rampage to Chuck, Wandy to Rampage etc… There are too many BIG solid fighters at 205 (Shogun, Rampage, Chuck, Mancida, Thigo Silva, Griffin, …)
Anderson Silva is a true great… probably the best mixed martial artist of all time (Along with BJ & GSP)… But I don’t think he could handle the bigger guys in the top of the 205 division…
and I think he’d struggle to cut weight to 170!!

Silva is winning this one hands down. And for the record GSP is losing to Fitch.
Silva has proven he can handle guys in the 205 weight division. He man handled Dan Henderson, who Rampage and Wanderlei had difficulties with. He also man handled Rich Franklin who use to fight in the light heavy weight division. I also feel that Silva is a strong fighter and no one seems to talk about his overall strength. The guy has knock out power. He would have and almost knocked out Dan Henderson. If you don’t believe me watch the fight for yourself. The way he knocked out Nate and tossed Rich Franklin around the ring in their first encounter is evidence of his strength. And please, stop hating on him.
SIlva is great but he could not handle the big 205 guys that could put him on his back for 3 rds. Irvin is catered to Silva not much of a mixed martial artist. More a boxer or kickboxer. Gsp is arguable right there with silva pound for pound along with garry warren jr
Silva is a legend but possibly very silly in taking this fight,The sandman is F****** Beast! it wont be a easy fight for either man, This breaks my heart to say but i think Silva will LOSE. but this is MMA and who really knows.
I agree that Anderson Silva is a great fighter. He is, without a doubt, one of the best. The reason people don’t like him is because he does not speak english. People fail to connect with someone when they don’t speak the same language. About Bisping, He is very good. People cannot refute his abilities. He went 15-0 before his decision loss to Rashad. That is a feat that most UFC fighters cannot boast about.
About the outcome of the fight…..It is going to be one hell of a fight. I don’t think it will last past the first round. I am going to predict Irvin wins by TKO 4:00 in the 1st. Probably going to get proven wrong but oh well. That’s the beauty of MMA.
KOuch. Your three belt scenario, though exciting, is impossible. UFC’s fighters are only able to fight 4 times in a year. UFC champions are required to defend thier title 2 times per year. Therefore, he could not hold three belts and meet the requirements. Besides, I don’t think he could cut weight down to the 175 mark.

i think “sandman” has the heavier hands & could KO silva.i hope he doesn’t get caught in silva’s muy thai clinch & eat abunch of knees.That will be the only way silva could win this one.

Sandman will win with the tricks that he knows best, we have all seen them before. He’s not sleeping.
I can’t believe how fast somepeople are counting Sandman out on this fight. Doesn’t anyone remember how he destroyed Houston Alexander? Houston is a handful for anyone and Sandman took him apart in, what, 8 seconds? I am not saying Sandman is going to run through Silva but he is going to win. I am sticking with my earlier prediction.

About Anderson Silva fighting in the 205 division. I hear people talking about him getting a 205 title shot BEFORE he ever fights in the 205. Don’t over look James Irvin. He is no joke. Even if he gets past Irvin, he has quite a mountain to climb before he gets that title shot. Regardless, it is going to be fun to see all of these people who think Anderson can’t be beat eating a whole lotta crow when Irvin knocks him out. No one has tested Anderson’s chin and I think Irvin is going to give it a pop quiz.
