Griffin, Jackson, Guillard, and Miller Awarded UFC 86 Bonuses

By: Kris Karkoski | Jul 6,2008

Forrest GriffinForrest Griffin, Quinton Jackson, Melvin Guillard, and Cole Miller were each awarded $60,000 bonuses by the UFC for their efforts at UFC 86.

Griffin and Jackson were each awarded $60,000 “Fight of the Night” bonuses for their thrilling, five-round main event bout. Griffin overcame Jackson’s power punches with leg kicks and submission attempts to claim the 205-pound title with a unanimous decision victory.

After posting a unanimous decision victory outside of the UFC following back-to-back losses, lightweight Melvin Guillard returned to the octagon in impressive fashion on Saturday, winning the “Knockout of the Night” bonus for his 36-second TKO win over Dennis Siver.

Cole Miller, a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 5, took home “Submission of the Night” honors for his late third-round triangle choke submission of jiu-jitsu black belt Jorge Gurgel.

UFC 86 “Jackson vs. Griffin” took place on Saturday, July 5th, in front of a sold out crowd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

hey anyone notice how ripped forrest looked at weighin’s looks like he took the fight pretty seriously but then again why wouldnt he.

I still have a problem with Dana saying JT is out of the UFC forever for being stupid at Palace Station and then a month after the show ends he allows JT back to fight. Way to man up Dana. Cant take you seriously anymore. Is the UFC hurting for talent that bad? That guy acts like an ass and is allowed to come back but there are fighters that have way more fighting experience lose maybe two matches in a row and you never hear from them again in the UFC. Doesnt make sense.

  • Ethan said:

He never said out of the UFC forever. Out of the finale and out of the UFC. I agree, I thought he’d make him wait more than a month, but he did say he’d give him another shot when he grew up.

the thing is people is we have a lot more to worrry about than jt in the octagon……the ufc and all other mma promotions will be going through some rough times pretty soon…….they just passed the modified rules of mma and the ufc and other orgs will probably not change there rules to…..mainly the ufc because dana says he doesnt want a 215 and 225 pound weight class….but eventually to be taken seriously as a sport all the orgs are going to have to agree on the same set of rules or else this will never get as big as it has the potential to get….the mma dark years approach there will be alot of controversy and alot of lawsuits….orgs will fall and some will get bigger….i really believe we all need to abid by the same rules or else the ranking system has no meaning which means that wamma is pretty much useless!

I thought it was get to see Randy Couture in the octogon with Forrest after the fight. I hope they get everything worked out soon so we can see Capt. America fight at least one more time!!!

  • g said:

i agrre that we should all abid by one rule but having weight classes like 215 and 225 i dont agree on cause then we will be like boxing with a bunch of champions devided by a few pounds. weight classes in the ufc is fine the way it is i it should not change

  • Ethan said:

I agree. The same guy would hold sever belts at the same time. If it ‘aint broke don’t fix it.

  • Levente said:

I’m just wondering if Rampage could keep that $60,000. Because he ‘bet his whole purse on it’ (that that fight ain’t vgo to decision). So the fight of the night award is included in his purse? Or he lost only his $225,000 with this bet?

  • the gunslinger said:

ya i like the weight classes 215 and 225 is just dumb but i do believe we need to all agree on the same things i do hear that big john wants elbows gone and knees to a grounded opponent to be legal now……but eventually we need to agree on some kind of equal weight system cause the ufc lightweight div. is 155 and elite xc is 160….i just hope the sport can keep progressing

  • JAI said:

I agree with all the pay outs….They got them right!

Hopefully they will get Rampage back in the cage soon. I just think the was out way to long. 10 months is just way to long to go with out fighting in this sport ecspecially when you’re not injured or on suspension or anything like that.

  • D-Caff said:

so they let JT back in but one of the the only guys left in the middle weight class who still has a chance 2 beat the anderson the spider silva, is matt lindland who has expressed his disire to return to the ufc, and they push him aside??? does anyone else see any problems with this???
