Mirko “Cro Cop” Withdraws From DREAM 5, To Undergo Surgery
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic has been forced off the July 21st DREAM 5 card due to elbow and knee injuries, according to his official blog:
Unfortunately I have some bad news– I won’t be fighting at DREAM 5 at all. I was about to face Jerome LeBanner but he decided to fight in K1 against Schilt. Mighty Mo was the alternative and I accepted this challenge, but unfortunately Mighty Mo pulled off from the fight. I was ready to face Mo, but maybe this scenario wasn’t that bad for me at all and I’ll tell you why.
I’ve been having problems with my right elbow for years and the injury got even worse over last 6 months. I’m already receiving a proper treatment but the recovery won’t happen over night. The second problem is a knee injury, something that troubles me for quite a while. I had difficulties using my kicks and over last few weeks I focused more on boxing and grappling. I really wanted to fight on July 21 and I was even ignoring doctor’s suggestions, but now I’ve rached the point from which I can’t continue with my normal training regiment due to my injuries.
“Cro Cop”, a PRIDE and UFC veteran, will undergo minor arthroscopic surgery on his knee and is expected to resume training in 2-3 weeks in preparation for a September 23rd bout.
Cro-cop is done.
Minor arthroscopic surgery actually isn’t that bad. It’s definitely not good but it could be worse.

Man that blows I was looking forward to seeing him fight. Hope he recovers and smashes people like he used to.

Man what’s up with Cro-cop of late? He and Drew Ficket are going tit for tat to see who can withdraw from the most matches the fastest or something. He may need to think about retiring or something.

Cro-cop was done as soon as he realized he couldn’t cut it in the UFC, his confidence seems to have vanished. which sucks hard because he is a great & exciting fighter.

Cro Cop is not ‘done’, he’s just going thru some mental hardships. For some reason he’s depressed and doubting his abilities. EVERYBODY goes thru this in life at one point to another, EVEN CELEBRITIES. He’ll be back. Just like you all doubted Wanderlei after 3 losses in a row. Even tho his first was to Mirko, the second, if not the best, fighter in the world. Then he was gunshy vs. Henderson, then he was nervous at his UFC debut to Liddell. Can Wanderlei beat Cro Cop? YES (he beat him the first fight, even tho it was a draw, he obviously won) Can Wanderlei beat Henderson (yes, he also did already). Can Wanderlei beat Liddell? ABSOLUTELY… the answer to that is OBVIOUS. Mirko will be back, once he shakes his mental block. MARK MY WORDS.
