EliteXC Saturday Night Fights 2 “Unfinished Business” Fight Card
- By: Kris Karkoski | Jul 23, 2008
EliteXC Saturday Night Fights 2 “Unfinished Business” takes place this Saturday, July 26th, at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, California. The event will air on Showtime beginning at 8pm ET and will then switch to CBS beginning at 9pm ET for two-plus additional hours of MMA action.
Three title bouts headline Saturday’s event as Robbie Lawler looks to defend his middleweight title against Scott Smith in a rematch from Saturday Night Fights 1, Jake Shields and Nick Thompson clash to crown the first-ever EliteXC welterweight champion, and Antonio “Big Foot” Silva takes on Justin Eilers for the newly-created EliteXC heavyweight championship. Popular-yet-controversial UFC veteran Nick Diaz will also be in action at the event, taking on Thomas Denny on the CBS-televised card.
As always, MMAFrenzy.com will have live coverage of EliteXC “Unfinished Business” this Saturday beginning at 6pm ET.
MAIN CARD
- Robbie Lawler (c) vs. Scott Smith
EliteXC Middleweight Championship - Nick Diaz vs. Thomas Denny
- Jake Shields vs. Nick Thompson
EliteXC Welterweight Championship - Shayna Baszler vs. Cristiane Cyborg

EliteXC Heavyweight Championship - Wilson Reis vs. Brian Caraway (Showtime)
- Rafael Feijao vs. Travis Galbraith (Showtime)
PRELIMINARY CARD

I am willing to bet that the UFC reply of Shrek vs Penn beats this card by atleast 500,000 viewers….only 500,000 because Spike is on cable

July 23rd, 2008 at 5:19 pm
I will show up here for results only….I am not going to give them another chance. What’s the line on Matt Hughes hitting Smith with his crutch when the ref has his backed turned?
July 23rd, 2008 at 5:27 pm
ill be watching it, its mma and thats what i like, not organizations and how ****ty or good they are, if elitexc is screwed up it makes a funny event, nonetheless people are still fighting thats all i care about
July 23rd, 2008 at 7:05 pm
this is not a bad card at all i will be tuning in
July 23rd, 2008 at 7:52 pm
free mma…of course ill watch this…plus theres no kimbo which is awesome!……ive seen worse cards than this i mean ufc 78 validation was boring!
July 23rd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
thats exactly what it is, free mma, if you can get it why not watch some, you never know you could see crazy knockout or something i think its better than watching a sit com or a movie
July 23rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
lol yes The Gunslinger!
you called it, no reason not to watch now
July 23rd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
I will be watching. I am a big Shields fan and think he will one day be a force in the UFC. Gary Shaw and his minions have a way of presenting their events in a really tacky, corny, outdated and disgusting manner. The fighters are great for the most part.
July 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
I’ll probably watch it just for the fact that there’s no reason not to. But my biggest problem is having the women’s fight on cbs rather than the silva vs eilers fight for the belt. Yes, both fights aren’t really that exciting, but i would rather see the two accomplished fighters fight.

We in the uk now get Maximum Fighting Championship via the Fight Network channel. Can any of you guys states side let me know if its any good and worth watching ?
July 24th, 2008 at 6:50 am
Gary Shaw has been backpedaled on EliteXC. He isn’t making decisions like he used to so that will perhaps help.
I would LOVE to watch this. But for some reason our cable company (TimeWarner out of Greensboro, NC) refuses to show it because of the violence (they didn’t air the last one either). We are 1 of TWO in the entire country that refused to show it. I swear bible belts are ridiculous..and it sucks I live in one.
Thank the lord for the ability to download the event even if a day late.

There hasn’t been much press for the MFC event at all. Ryan Ford is them most notable guy on the card, he’s an undefeated up-and-comer and is fighting Pat Healy for the welterweight title in the main event. Not full of notables but Ford makes it worth tuning in to, at least for the main event.
July 24th, 2008 at 9:49 am
Kris,
Is Ford the black guy with the kung fu/karate/kickboxing style.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:01 am
From what I’ve seen of him he’s a pretty traditional fighter and is decently well-rounded, splitting his wins between knockout and submission.
He’s the guy who beat Pete Spratt after Herb Dean didn’t hear the bell and allowed him to land several punches that rocked Spratt after the round was over. He was supposed to fight Drew Fickett for the title but Fickett was dropped a couple weeks ago when he accepted a Strikeforce fight, even though he never actually fought.

Since Kimbo isn’t on this card I’m half expecting him to sneak into the cage while the ref isn’t looking and hit Lawler over the head with a folding chair. It sucks that this is some peoples’ introduction to MMA. I’ll probably still watch though. I’ve paid for enough UFC pay-per-views to make up for it.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:28 am
i dont think elite xc is that bad…the only problem i had with saturday night fights one was the dancing girl, the horibble commentators and kimbo vs thompson and thats it like i said earlier ufc has had worse cards
July 24th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Elite has some great fighters……it’s just the presentation of their events that suck.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
I would rather see Gina Carano fight again than some of these guys. But I will watch 4 the knock outs.
