Evan Tanner’s Latest Adventure

By: bsbiz | Aug 19, 2008

Evan TannerFor those who follow UFC veteran Evan Tanner, you know that he leads what some might call an unorthodox lifestyle, complete with random, life-threatening excursions that seem above all else, unnecessary.

Tanner is at it again and this time the former UFC middleweight champion is gearing up for a trip into the vast desert of Southern California:

“The idea going into the desert came to me soon after I moved to Oceanside. It was motivated by my friend Sara’s talk of treasure hunting and lost gold, and my own insatiable appetite for adventure and exploration. I began to imagine what might be found in the deep reaches of the untracked desert. It became an obsession of sorts…

One more week. I think one more week, and I’ll be ready to go.”

I’ve been gathering my gear for this adventure for over a month, not a long time by most standards, but far too long for my impatient nature. Being a minimalist by nature, wanting to carry only the essentials, and being extremely particular, it has been a little difficult to find just the right equipment. I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life. I’ve been doing a great deal of research and study. I want to know all I can about where I’m going, and I want to make sure I have the best equipment.

Good luck Evan, and be sure to watch out for those man-eating jack rabbits, and that killer cacti.

F SURVIVORMAN! F MAN vs WILD! We have a new nature hero and his name is Evan Tanner. Tanner is f-ing crazy. He is going on a treasure hunt deep in the desert and might lose his life….hmm…I think he is taking he loss worse than Rampage. Nice picture though. It has a nice “Hi, I’m Evan and I like pizza,” straight out of the pysch ward look to it.

How can you guys make fun of someone for this? He’s going out into the desert to do exactly what we’re all genetically programmed to do… survive. Really survive. I’m not talking about playing world of warcraft in mommy’s basement and going to your crappy office job. Evan is going out to further define himself as a man. You guys could call yourselves lucky to have a quarter of the balls someone like this has.

  • Cole Miller said:

  • mburtoni said:

He could probably definitely have his own reality show, where he lives by himself out in the wilderness and hunts large game by choking them out with a triangle

  • rutdog said:

If more people knew who he is, then VH1 would pick this reality nightmare up in a second.

  • esopterodactyl said:

I think he has been caught with one too many knees if he thinks this is a good idea. I hope he comes back with the head of a jackalope in his teeth…GO EVAN!!

  • animal said:

10 bucks that he ends up having to drink his own piss! .. wouldn’t be that surprised if he does it already? .. the old beard would smell a bit funky if that is the case though.

The man is a legend. Best of luck Tanman.

I envy him. I would love to be able to up and leave into the wild on a journey. But I am poor, and have a lot of debt i would have to pay before I did that.

The movie ‘into the wild’ is something that I would love to do. Apparently, Tanner too. Awesome, I respect him. And his awesome beard!

R.I.P. Evan. You lived a storied and full life in your short 37 years. You had more adventures than most of us will in our lifetimes. Your story will be told someday and we will all be here eagerly awaiting the whole tale. We know in life, you had your struggles, and now you can finally have your peace. Rest easy. You will be missed.

Sad to see that we are programmed to doubt and take lightly true intention of a journey that ended up being a journey of a lifetime… it seemed a joke back then, didnt it?

    RIP

Thank you,Dietrich. First mention of Evan’s family.
Yes, he has a mother and a father, a brother, two sisters, and cousins. I am Evan’s aunt. Of course, we loved Evan very much. His mother worried every day about him, and could not stand to watch his fights. Guess what. We knew Evan when he was a precious little boy. He was awesome even as a kid. He won the spelling bee in grade school without the family knowing he was even in it. He went to the Nationals in bicycle racing. He ran to and from school to train as a high school wrestler. He cooked his own healthy food and baked his own bread. He was an avid reader and he taught himself from books to do some awesome sketches. At 8 or 9 years old he climbed trees about 30 or 40 feet up and went from one tree to another without coming down. I asked Evan once can you do something,I forget what now, and his answer was yes. I said have you ever done it before? He said no, but I know I can. No, he wasn’t perfect, but he put everything he had into all he did. I’m sure he did that in the desert too!

I have been reading for two days now everything on the web about Evan. I am overwhelmed by so many of you friends and fans and the nice things you have said about our loved one. A family needs to be encouraged too. You’ve all said you will miss him. We will too. Thank you. BELIEVE (in Jesus Christ the Saviour).
