K-1 Veterans Patrick Barry and Andre Walker To Face Off at Strikeforce “Payback”

By: Kris Karkoski | Aug 26, 2008

Patrick BarryK-1 kickboxing veterans Patrick “HD” Barry (3-0) and Andre “The Silencer” Walker (2-3) will face off at Strikeforce “Payback” on October 3rd in Denver, Colorado.

Strikeforce officially announced the bout on Sunday.

Barry, a veteran of Chuck Norris’ World Combat League and a 2003 Kung-Fu World Championship silver medalist, has stopped all three of his opponents in the opening round including a Friday victory over Simon Diouf with a trio of leg kicks.

“I started off in kickboxing with the goal of being the world’s best kickboxer and, now, moving into MMA, I want to be the world’s best kickboxer in MMA,” said Barry. “MMA is turning into kickboxing in the cage, pretty much. That’s just the way the sport has evolved.”

Walker dropped his only recent MMA bout to Carpaccio Owens in early-2007 but has since secured K-1 victories over Gary Goodridge and Rickard Nordstrand.

“I like it a lot,” said Barry. “I’ve been kickboxing for six or seven years, so this is something different. I like it because it’s not easy and, if we want to train to be fighters, we’ve got to be ready for any kind of fight, any time, on all different terrains.”

Frank Trigg meets Falaniko Vitale in the “Payback” main event and Duane Ludwig takes on UFC veteran Sammy Morgan in the co-main event. Phil Baroni and Pete Spratt will also be in action in separate bouts at the October 3rd event.
