NEWS AND NOTES
- Ken Shamrock has been forced to withdraw from the scheduled main event against Kimbo Slice due to a cut suffered earlier today over his left eye. EliteXC has tapped Seth Petruzelli, who was scheduled to fight Aaron Rosa on the EliteXC “Heat” undercard, to take on Slice in place of Shamrock.
- Tito Ortiz announced during the CBS broadcast of EliteXC “Heat” that he is approximately one week away from signing with the promotion.
- EliteXC “Heat” received substantial mainstream press as Ken Shamrock’s main event withdrawl was a top story on ESPN.com and news of Seth Petruzelli’s main event upset of Kimbo Slice was aired as “Breaking News” during ESPN’s college football broadcasts.

How in the world did he hurt himself?
It’s not really clear. He reportedly suffered a cut above his eye but that’s all I’ve heard so far. I’ll pass along more when I hear it.
Really now Shammy can’t fight Kevin well guess their main event isn’t as great as they thought….
Just landed in Chicago good to see your site up Kris cheers
Thanks Kris,
It’s beyond me that with less than 24 hrs before fight time you would have contact training. Shamrock has been doing this for a lot of years and should know better. How funny will it be if Petruzelli beats Kimbo?
In case anyone cares, my avatar is my dog, Harley.
Is he not impressive?
I heard the fight is still on, its a game time decision as far as I know, who said it was cancelled
Kevin v Shammy is scraped that not good for EliteXC
Nice that I finally get to be on this wonderful site again good job Kris cheers..
i sometimes ponder what life would be like if mmafrenzy didnt excist…that would suck
Shamrock is such a suck. he knew his time was up!
shamrock will win
would have*
srry didnt mean to put will that sucks man i was looking forward to that fight hopfully whoever he fights whoops him..probably don frye or severn,or tito
if elite had any balls theyd make it kimbo vs AA or brett rogers since they shouldve fought on this card anyway. or is AA only aloud to fight another affliction fighter?
huerta that could only happen if both nelson and Arlovski scrapped their fight, then affliction would have to sign off…needless to say that would never happen right before a fight
i doubt it will be anyone that is well known..but i pray that who ever it is upsets kimbo…….because that could cause elite xc to fall and then maybe the ufc could ackwire shields, noons, lawler, rua, bigfoot, rogers and other people…crazy horse vs melvin guillard anyone
just heard that seth petruzelli or aron rosa will fight kimbo IF shamrock cannot fight, nothing is confirmed to be called off
They should just have Arlovski fight twice, he can probably handle both in one night.
Whoa! Did ya’ll hear what Frank said about his brother?
sometimes i really dont like frank ..he takes any chance he can to damage his bros. reputation a very girly move….but i have a feeling the silverback could upset the hobo…but the ref’s probably have orders to not to stop it/petrizelli gets cash for losing
what did Frank say? I missed that.
radach for mw champ?
chris l frank said that ken trains to hard and brings descrse to the shamrock family
descrase*
I saw Radach on an NBC special about MMA because of all of the injuries he’s suffered throughout his career.
interesting e-roc…link?
I don’t have a link. I saw it on tv…..on CNBC.
I’d give that round to Carano. Kobold would’ve won the round if she’d taken Gina down or something other than holding on.
Kobold won the second round.
I have never been excited about women’s mma until tonight. WOW!
womans fight kicks men fighting anyday…woman can take punishment what a chin on kiblad and great takedown defense by gina..id watch this over any men fighting anyday..both warriors gina by unanimous decsion
wow great fight by the women that was a true MMA fight. Frank has always been a bit of a prick but oh well. Ken is no disgrace to the Shamrock family at least he’s had the guts to take hard fights even if he has been a little psycho in his choices.
i agree chris..man that was one of the best fights ive seen for a while
screw carrano vs guyborg i want watterson vs carrano on the next cbs event. better yet i demand it!
They should have let Cyborg fight Kimbo after Ken dropped out. I bet she offered.
is this suppose to be on cbs…i live in new orleans and all im getting is election coverage
Anyone else think that nelson should think about that weight loss again…
chris l i say no. i was laughin my ass off at how far over his shorts his gut was. but arlovski looks like an animal. id like to see him back in the ufc against a good striker like hardonk or kongo or mayb even gonzaga
no nelsonwouldnt be big country without the belly he’d be roy country nelson..which would be weird..look for a shields sub or a daley ko coming soon and the guy who said watterson vs carano would be better than cyborg vs carrano is dumb….watterson is really small in the sport gina would destroy in 1 min guarrented michielle is hot and a good fighter but she has a lot to learn….with her training with jackson it guarenteed she will be really good but way to early gina would destroy plus they couldnt fight anyways if one of them was in the others guard the ref’s and judges wouldnt be able to pay attention and the camera guys would drop there cameras from amazement but all seriously one more time carrano by ko…watterson isnt experienced enough or good enough yet…carrano vs cyborg will be the best womans mma fight ever..and thats a promise
goodbye daley
Waterson would be giving up over 30lbs fighting Carano so don’t bet on it
mount its over..oh wait
Jesus that was stupid of shields…getting way too ****y…hopefully that will wake him up.
he should have had that arm he should have transitioned to a triangle thats what you do when someone tries to reverse
exactly but he wanted the armbar too bad…and now he has it…to be honest I think he went in only wanting to hit that armbar no matter what he had to do..
yes KOuch is licking his tv right now and having a rave with his midgets….finally shields
ok who you guys got kimbo or the silverback…kimbo will probably win but im hoping seth comes out there an d drops him or takes him down and gnp’s him or subs him
don’t be surprised if Silverback gets a takedown…I think he may surprise Kimbo, sadly I see it being a 3rd round KO for Kimbo
Very good card so far. Nice mix of action and finishes.
I thought Arlovski-Nelson could have continued for a bit longer but it’s always better to stop it too early than too late.
Carano looked very good in her win, though I wish the women’s fights were 5×3 instead of 3×3.
Daley-Shields was a close fight until Shields got the sub.
Radach-Rua was an exciting fight, though I was a bit surprised with Radach picking up the upset win.
No surprise Cyborg beat Takahashi, though I’m surprised she didn’t get the finish which might say more about the toughness of Takahashi than the skills of Cyborg.
i know i want kimbo to lose so bad….i love bas but man i just dint like kimbo bad for the sport..i heard some kids talking the other day saying that kimbo was one of the best fighters in mma
whos got it kris seth or kimbo
well we know who elite wants to win did you see the kick butt kimbo signs they handed out…if kimbo loses i would respect him more
Is this not live? The winner is already posted as kimbo 2nd round by oral submission.
Kris I do agree with you on Arlovski-Nelson but because of the way Nelson fell after taking several hard shots I wasn’t suprised it was stopped at all.
ya i think arlovski would have hurt him more if it wasnt stopped anyways!
yes
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THAT WAS AWESOME!!!
yes
best upset ever
holy crap?!?!
chris l and kris i love u i love everyone seth has been given a gift from god….elite xc employess where frowning there done yes long live dana white…dana is laughing and rolling dough right now
WOW!!!
back to bum fights part 2 for you kimbo
lookin at the replays and Seth was barely tagging him with some of those shots, I think yet again the refs stopped a CBS fight too early.
no you couldnt see the big shot that stopped it because the ref stode in the way
it can happen believe! looked like the first shot was the one that did the most damage
yea they stopped it too early but still BLEEP kimbo. seth petruzelli is now in my top 10 fav fighters for wat he did to kimbo
kris i want to know what was going through your head when that happened
HOLY ****!
and i dont mean he whooped on kimbo but he gets the w and kimbo gets the lose and that makes me giddy as a school boy
I love it. Kimbo the fraud exposed. hahahahahahahaha
Yeah, the mith that was kimbo has been destroyed. Finally. That was great.
they honestly did not stop it too early lol he was not defending himself. his hands were never up. Do I think he could have fought on? Yes but he did not at any point intelligently defend himself.
that was awesome…wow there already trying to defend kimbo…”his head wasnt in the game”….”he gets a mulagin becaus he trained for shamrock”…no kimbo fights whoever whenever where ever and guess what that a big w i cant wait to see everyone tommorow and talk to everyone this is going to start and uprising in mma, making it even bigger…i do give kimbo respect though at least he was humble enough to except the lose
Yeah Chris L, I’m not saying the Arlovski-Nelson stoppage wasn’t justified given the circumstances but looking at the replay it seems pretty clear Nelson probably could have continued, though Arlovski probably could’ve finished him off with one more shot.
Awesome!!!! Love watching Kimbo go down….funny how Kimbo would not touch gloves before the fight and then he wears a straight right to the eye ball that sends him to the mat! Dude, what about the Elite XC Executive (sorry I don’t know his name) in the background yelling that he was being hit in the back of the head! I hate Kimbo, he is bad for MMA and it is great to see that an UFC low-level guy at light heavyweight is better than Elite XC Marquee Attraction at Heavyweight! Kimbo is a punk and apparently cannot take a punch!
Sorry for not giving ya’ll my prediction before Slice-Petruzelli, just ran out of time.
I basically saw it as an even matchup leaning maybe just slightly to Kimbo because of his size advantage but both fighters were training for another fight so they’re even on that front.
Petruzelli just came out and executed and Slice got caught, though it was a pretty shocking turn of events from Shamrock dropping out to Petruzelli knocking Slice out in 14-seconds. Who would’ve thought that was gonna happen.
i knew it karate prevails again….proud karate fighter and love to see karate techniques bring home the bacon
The Petruzelli-Slice fight definitely wasn’t stopped prematurely. Watch the replay. Kimbo is rocked by the initial shot and tried to recover but Petruzelli rocked him again then teed off right to his face to finish the fight. Definitely not an early stoppage, IMO.
That was unbelievable. Kimbo down in 14 seconds. Too bad for Shamrock. He obviously would have won also. Now he doesn’t get this payday, and there will not be another shot at Kimbo. Who cares now.
Ninja Rua looked in horrible shape. Was he training with Nelson at the KFC? Arlovski-Nelson was a great fight. Stopped too early. Arlovski looks better in a cage than the ring. Affliction, bring the cage. All in all, a great fight card. Better than any UFC fight night.
i just laughed when i saw all the kick butt kimbo signs fall as soon as he fell you could see jarred shaw’s (at least it looked like him)face fall and frown when that happened…im pretty sure it was shaw it looked like kevin federline and that what i think shaw looks like so i think that was him just wow i cant stop talking im so pumped
Well now it was worth the watch after all! lol Kimbo down so fast this just was not a good night for EliteXc first there main event Shamrock drops the ball …hes F*cked now. Kimbo drops fast to Seth Petruzelli lol maybe the ufc will give him a fight now that hes debunked the EliteXc most popular fighter! Danas happy
Carano nothing bad to say about her, she had a great fight big shots i like seeing her fight!
Andrei Arlovski man lol he is probably the best fighter they will ever have in that ring! good fight for him put away big country in good time
My favorite two moments of the main event besides Petruzelli upsetting Slice was Slice pinning the ref to the cage because he thought he was still in the fight and Jared Shaw’s reaction when the fight was stopped. Just hilarious.
actually gonzo i thought arlovski’s best performance ever was in the ring against rothwell at affliction
in the slow motion replay you can see the short left hook that Petruzelli throws right after the 2nd front tip-kick, it lands flush on Kimbo’s chin and shuts him off. Seth Petruzelli throws like another 12 right hands, maybe 3 of which actually land, but the point is that Kimbo’s hands were WAY down by his waist and he WAS OUT! he was trying to take Troy Waugh down up to like 5 seconds after the stoppage, Kimbo was far all intensive purposes unconscious and i DO think it was a good stoppage.
Dana White is going to have a FIELD DAY with this one, i can see it now.
All the other fights were good, the Arlovski/Nelson fight may have been stopped a little prematurely, but it would NOT have changed the outcome. Roy Nelson would’ve just taken more abuse for no reason. The only thing i didn’t agree with was the ref standing them up when Nelson had side control on Arlovski, aside from that it was a great fight. Also really pumped to see Benji Radach back in action, pulling off the upset, GREAT KO!!
agreed kris shaws face was hilarious
I really agree with you Kris on the Nelson-Arlovski fight. I am just thinking it was only because of the way Nelson fell and also how he was using the cage to hold himself up before he went down. I think that is why they did not give him the benefit of the doubt. Either way Arlovski looked great tonight. So did Benji and gotta love Petruzelli’s guts.
I am kinda annoyed with the announcers as well because they say Kimbo fight anyone, anywhere, anytime and then when he fights someone on short notice they want to make excuses for him. That’s Bull. Truth is any accurate striker would have done the same when a guys comes in with his hands low and chin forward. That’s not something covered in a camp, that’s covered your FIRST DAY of muay thai or striking classes.
Gunslinger, I saw the Jarred Shaw yelling in the background. He is concerned for Elite XC. I think the next CBS Fight Night may be Elite XC’s last. No Kimbo, no CBS. Unless the proposed Mark Burnett produced MMA reality program is a hit, and it uses Elite XC as its promotion company.
kimbo probably thought the beard would cushin the blow..but he was wrong
Oh yeah, it was definitely Shaw. You can see him stressing in a few different camera angles, especially the replay of the stoppage.
Arlovski/Nelson that fight was not stopped prematurely alls we would have seen was the fat man take a huge downward shot to the skull and maybe more one punch after that good stop!
That fight was not stopped early. Kimbo’s hands were down and not coming back up. There was ZERO defense. By definition, that’s a righteous stop.
Kimbo is a ****. Tapping would have had more dignity.
In other news, Troy Waugh just got fired, I bet.
Great fights tonight!!! Elitexc once again put on an exciting card with many unknown fighters. But goddamn how did Kimbo get knocked out while Seth was on one foot. I thought he had the most exciting fights in the second ultimate fighter season.
Dana is probably on the phone with Seth right now congratulating Seth right now for shuting Kimbo up.
But thats what you get when you fight an artist not a back ally fighter. congrats on all the fighters tonight, definitely impressed
I enjoyed the fights tonight. Definitely think Shogun is the better Rua. The line about Radach being up there with A. Silva in striking was hillarious, although I do think Radach is pretty good, and certainly pounded Rua. I think maybe the Nelson fight was stopped a tad early, but it didn’t change the outcome, he just would have gotten punched some more. The way that he fell though, to do a belly flop and lazily roll over and not even go to any kind of guard really doesn’t show any amount of consciousness. I was really upset though when they stood them up when he had side control working on AA’s arms. I understand wanting to put on a good show for the fans, but you also have to maintain the integrity of the sport. I agree with standing fighters up for inactivity, but you have to find a good balance. They didn’t quite have that good balance in that fight. If he was just laying in his guard doing nothing, I could have definitely seen justification for the stand up.
Justin….Nelson had him in side control for 2 minutes and threw 2 strikes. He was going into Lay n Pray mode. Stand them up. Let them fight, not make out.
Roy Nelson has power. Roy Nelson can do submissions. IF they occur in the first 2 minutes of a fight. Otherwise he’s a 280 lb bag of sand. He should probably suck it up and make the big switch to sumo because his only other option is mall Santa.
DBiz,
While I do think that AA is the better fighter, and Roy Nelson was put in there more as a punching bag than a real competitor, I still think that the stand up was premature. I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree, but it seemed to me that Nelson was working some submissions and didn’t deserve to get stood up. I actually yelled at the TV when they stood them up, but whatever what’s done is done, and the better fighter won.
