Cooling Down: EliteXC “Heat” Thoughts and Commentary
As I write this piece while occasionally sipping from my seasonal Oktoberfest brew, I can only imagine that somewhere, Dana White has an ear-to-ear smile plastered across his evil little face. And I bet Sean Gannon is grinning a bit as well. Despite “Heat” sporting a very strong card which entertained me to the gills, it was the main event which brought EliteXC’s festivities to a screeching halt. And really it shouldn’t have with so many other great fights on the lineup, but I guess that is how it goes when you relegate your champion fighters to the back burner and place a 3-0 bodyguard in your main attraction.
Though to be fair, I take it upon myself to remind us all that Kimbo Slice should never have been on the same card as most of the fighters on Saturday night. The man is still extremely green in the MMA realm and in all honesty, should be making his run on the smaller circuits so that if and when he truly is ready, the big time will be there to welcome him with open arms. But that obviously was not the course life took for the “street certified” fist magician, who got pushed hard and fast by ProElite and Co., who were looking to cash in on the odd name known throughout YouTube and beyond.
Yes, Kimbo accepted a fight on extremely short notice against a game opponent whom he knew absolutely nothing about. That is commendable. But as a fighter, accepting a bout change last minute is something you are expected to cope with from time to time. It isn’t written any where, but it does sort of come with the territory. Regardless of who precisely you had been training for, the bottom line is that you were indeed training for a sufficient amount of time, and should be ready to fight whoever gets thrown into that cage (within reason, of course.)
That being said, Mr. Spotlight Seth Petruzelli (who weighed in at 205 pounds mind you) is the classic “nobody special” in the MMA universe. A season 2 TUF alumnus, Petruzelli’s biggest previous accomplishment was a decision win over an aging Dan Severn back in 2004. Pertuzelli is a seasoned martial artist but to say that he is top ten or even top 20 would be a massive stretch. And this guy knocked out Kimbo Slice in 14 seconds. See where I’m going with this?
Any how, EliteXC as a product has unfortunately lost some clout due to their million dollar bearded baby dropping a 14 second loss to a random journeyman with hot pink highlights. Kimbo can learn from his mistakes, recover, and come back to trounce Ken Shamrock like he was supposed to. And that is all well and good.
But eventually, another Seth Petruzelli will come along and put another dent into Kimbo’s nearly shattered illusion of invincibility. And what happens after that? Does the man retire after only a handful of professional fights? This is the problem with taking a name to the big show before it is fully matured. Even if Kimbo gets back on track with another win or two over hand-picked tomato cans, the Slice-equation still remains unsolved in the long-run. There just isn’t enough time to train someone, mentally and physically, to be the kind of fighter that people want Kimbo to be, versus the type of fighter that he is. Indeed, a rough and questionable road ahead awaits the 34 year old backyard brawler…

The Rest of the Fights
Benji Radach def. Murilo “Ninja” Rua via TKO (strikes)
Well I thoroughly underestimated Benji Radach. I figured Rua to weather any striking storms Radach had to offer and come back with his own heavy shots for the inevitable TKO. But Radach threw some really nice combinations with power to match. Rua looked a bit sluggish and out of his game but take nothing away from Radach, the guy does have serious skills, though he is historically very prone to injury.
Gina Carano def. Kelly Kobold via unanimous decision
For someone who explicitly did not want to be referred to as “The Face of Women’s MMA”, Carano was certainly called that at least a handful of times over the course of the evening. Oh well. It obviously didn’t affect her game against Kelly Kobold, who clearly favored grappling and proved a worthy challenger, but ultimately fell to a more precise striker in Carano. Albeit not of the knock out nature, Gina’s late onslaught of pesky kicks looked as if they’d make any opponent frustrated and sloppy. I can only imagine that the rumored bout with Cristiane Cyborg is on the horizon, but who can ever tell with ProElite brass at the helm. All in all, another very strong showing for “Conviction.”
Andrei Arlovski def. Roy Nelson via KO
I actually thought that Nelson could have pulled out the upset if he managed to smother Arlovski on the ground with his ample gut, but it just wasn’t so. Once again I criticize the EliteXC ref’s for forcing Nelson to his feet while he was clearly working hard to keep Arlovski down and neutralized. Nonetheless, Arlovksi proved that sloppy physiques and sparse haymakers are no match for precision boxing and superb conditioning. Keep on trucking Andrei, you’ll find a comparable foe soon enough. As for Nelson, well I guess he’s beyond that weight watchers pep talk at this point, right?
Jake Shields def. Paul Daley via submission (armbar)
I pegged Daley to win this one sprawl and brawl style. Surely, Shields is the superior wrestler and submission fighter, but to say that Daley’s striking is light years beyond that of Jake Shields would be a gross understatement. Shields really lucked out in being able to take advantage of someone who has yet to develop an economical ground defense, but I’d still keep an eye out for Paul Daley in the future. Trust when I say that if Daley keeps up his grappling training he could turn into an extremely dangerous well-rounded threat to all welterweights in the game. Back across the pond to Cage Rage for now? Or maybe another “retirement”? You tell us, “Semtex”.
Additional Notes
- For those who weren’t absolutely certain that EliteXC was again counting on Kimbo to win big and help keep the promotion afloat, rest assured it was written all over Jared Shaw’s face. It appeared as if Shaw nearly had a heart attack when Kimbo succumbed to the seldom known Seth Pertruzelli, as the slow-motion replay depicted a frantic “Skala” in the background looking as if someone just TKO’d his brand new puppy. I can only hope many of you also caught that nice little gem.
- What is with these referees adding commentary right before the match begins? Is it no longer cool to simply recite the rules and start the damn fight? Now we have to listen to referees attempt to slip in bits about “showing the world what female MMA is all about” and so forth. I’m sure it wasn’t the ref’s idea, but nonetheless a cheesy move by EliteXC.
- I also have to agree with the commentating crew when I say that female MMA should utilize the five minute round and ditch this three minute b.s. These ladies train just as hard and risk just as much by fighting, so let them fight for just as long as the Y chromosomes do. Is that such a crazy idea?
- I know this isn’t news to anyone, but the more images I see of Cristiane Cyborg the more I can’t help but think “wow is that dude scary.” Seriously, Cyborg looks like the walking dead. You could not pay me enough to fight that…person.
- Frank Shamrock still has braces. Good for him for finally fixing that weird extra tooth thing, but can’t you remove those bad boys for a fancy night out?Frank also reportedly offered to step out of his suit and into the cage as a late move, but come on, we all know how that match would have ended up.
- CBS seems to have it together with the whole HD thing. The audio and visual came in incredibly clear on the new overpriced big screen, compared to the HD UFC pay-per-views which usually leave me pondering “What did I pay the extra ten bucks for?”.
- And lastly, I would be remiss if I did not harp just a little bit on Ken Shamrock royally screwing the pooch. What was going on there Kenny? You decided to spar full contact the day of the big fight? I wasn’t terribly hung up on Shamrock’s absence since the man shouldn’t be fighting anymore any way, but my younger brother (who knows Shamrock more from his WWE days than anything else) actually called me up fuming about how he thinks Shamrock’s shenanigans were part of an elaborate scheme by EliteXC to pull the old bait and switch on the viewing public. This is the kind of phone call I have to deal with because Ken Shamrock can’t remember to take it easy before a fight. Thanks Ken.

he he he, and we all thought it was sham-rock that had a weak chin…
well this just goes to show exactly why promo’s that are up and coming are destined to fail, and remain a stepping stone to the UFC, and a haven for has beens…
so now that petruzelli has done this, i expect to hear more about him… cause if they promo’d the hell out of kimbo and he got beat like a small child, then seth will be hailed as the kimbo killer lol
last nite i was at a bar, i got digits, saw a girl with huge tits get naked in the pool, then saw a ****in chase on the freeway goin home. i’d trade it all to have seen that piece of crap gettin ko’d live. thank god for the replay.
btw eric, this is a really good article.
good analysis Eric. I actually found myself enjoying the fight card due to some really good fights. I really really agree with you about Daley. If he gets any semblance of a ground game he will be a beast. Also anyone who says that Shields is on par with GSP(ahem the eliteXC brass) just needs to look back at this fight. His striking is still elementary at best. Now once he gets it up to par he will be a force but until then it’s stick to that wicked shot that he has and solid ground game. Also cyborg is frightening…she fights like all of the Chute Box guys and just tries to kill everything. I think womens MMA needs the 5 minute round as well if not only to help legitimize it in some people’s eyes. They train just as hard so let them fight as hard.
I thought this was an okay night of fights, like E-ROC said “by EliteXC standards”. I mean sure the announcers made me want to hang myself, but at least a lot of the crap from the last show was gone. Last time it looked like a circus, something outta cirque-de-solei (or however you spell it). This was a little more respectable, and I enjoyed the evening, and I must say I did like seeing Kimbo getting ko-ed. I am not a kimbo fan, I like real mma fighters, but I think people need to realize that he is still pretty new to this sport, and guys new to mma should be fighting lower level guys to get comfortable out there. Maybe I’m way off base here, but maybe Kimbo will be a good fighter (I say good cause I don’t think he’ll ever be a great fighter) as his career progresses, even GSP said sometimes a loss is more important than a win because you can learn a lot from a loss.
Justin, as for Joe Rogan, I agree he can be annoying, but I like his passion for mma, that guy absolutely loves this sport, and Joe really knows his stuff. He even trains with some of these guys. I heard Rogan say during a broadcast one time that he thinks it is great that there are all these other mma organizations out there. He said the more mma orgs than the more exposure the sport gets and the bigger the sport will be, and this is a guy who works for UFC, who are notorious for trying to stop people from watching other shows. And Joe is right, the more there are these smaller shows, promoting mma to more and more people, the more this sport is going to grow. I LOVE this sport, and the more people see the more people are going to watch, UFC needs to realize these other promotions may not promote the same, but at least they might be reaching a new demographic of fans. Baseball is boring as hell compared to mma, boxing? I used to watch boxing but now I find it boring, I keep waiting for the takedown or leg kick or something.
Let me re-iterate, I am not a kimbo fan, but I think his attention and media hype actually help this sport as a whole. Some people who tuned in to last nights fights for the first time might decide, hey maybe I’ll watch the next ufc pay-per-view, and see if it really is the best mma, and at least a few of them will turn in to main stream fans like most of us who visit this site. More free mma on more network television = growth.
I posted this in another story, but was late and thought I would again.
I agree with most of what Kris said, good summary… and yeah Kris, Cyborg is one scary dude.
EliteXC is officially a joke and they will be out of business in no time. Despite what $kala says, the Kimbo fight was an absolute disaster and the bubble is officially deflated.
I bet Dana White and the boys were celebrating last night!
Kris, Eric, or anyone,
On a serious note about Cyborg, does anyone know the rules regarding sex change operations? I’m completely 100% serious. If Cyborg was born a man and had that operation does that make her/him eligible for women’s MMA? If I met “her” in a pitch black club, drunk as ever, and I had just had my eyes gouged out, I would still think to myself: “that’s a dude.”
Sorry Eric, I meant to say you, Kris is just kinda what my fingers typed. Great story and love the new site!!
Drinkin some oktoberfest eh, thats some good stuff. So glad to see Kimbo get beat, one of the best mma fighters my ass. HAHAHA!
Tmoney
thats hilarious, she is rather manly, just think that she is married to another fighter. I feel sorry for him.
Newfie- I actually wrote up this piece, but thanks for the commentary!
I disagree with people saying Nelson should not have been stood up. He was trying to Sylvia the fight buy laying on the opponent and doing nothing. We hated it when Timmeh did it, why shouldn’t we hate it when Tubs does it?
Had he bee, I don’t know, DOING SOMETHING on the ground then by all means let it go. But two knees and one submission attempt in two minutes of smother time is not fighting.
Nelson either needs to get his fat ass in shape or jump over to sumo. Or mall Santa work.
I agree that kimbo getting derailed is bad somewhat for Elite XC . I do think that there are some good fights still to come .. diaz vs Alvarez for the Lightweight title is a plus and a Frank shamrock vs ortiz would be fun to watch .frank/tito are obviously past it now , but its like when sugar ray fought Hitman the second time ……not their best but good enough for a show .gina vs Santos is gonna be a good fight that I cant wait to see ……. so its not like they are completely out of it . If they can get a heavyweight besides andre or josh to make a serious threat to fedor soon then it may be a good thing Kimbo went down
Hey i hope kimbo kicks some ass now that he’s been exposed as a fraud.Lets be real we all love exiting fighters,we all love to watch the crazy mike tyson like fighters lovem or hate them. And lets not forget that it’s not kimbo’s fault of course he’s going to take advantage of the situation. So maybe now elite won’t feel the need to protect him as much, and we’ll see if he really has a chance in hell at doing anything in the sport.I personally don’t care eiter way but at least we won’t all feal the need to kimbo bash anymore.
Now hopefully EliteXC will put Kimbo on the back burner and concentrate on the gems they have in Carano, Shields & Lawler.
I will bet anything Skala will be looking on YouTube or any other video sharing website 4 tha nu Kimbo yo and push him to the hilt or alternatively get a handheld and create the same fake aura as Kimbo.
The Huge upside last night is the likely hood of Carano vs Cyborg in early 09 and a EliteCX super fight involving Lawler vs Shields.
What do you think the chances of Elite creating a LHW belt after Seth’s win and pushing him to the moon ?
Good stuff, Eric. I agree with everything that is written.
I don’t think EliteXC will tank, at least not yet. They have some solid fighters, but no real superstar, except for maybe Gina Carano. No, they don’t possess the depth of the UFC or any other organization, but I think they’ll manage. They’ll need to start scouting for young talent. Heck, sign Tito Ortiz.
EliteXC would do wonders if they stop with the gimmicky intros by the announcer. I’m sure the fans know that Kimbo has been featured in countless youtube videos. The company should just promote the product which is MMA itself and let the actually fighting speak for itself.
Again, I believe they lucked out with last night’s card. Great performances all around, sans Ken Shamrock debacle.
i think elite xc is done for…..there next move would be to start putting kimbo on the undercard/first televised fight…no main events and start building him up again from scratch and build for a rematch with the silverback or fight shamrock……i completly agree though eric…..everyone knows dana, larenzo and frank were all celebrating after that…..kimbo needs to stay with bas, train more and fight in smaller events until he gets better and maybe one day he will be accepted into the mma world…its kinda funny how elitexc and ufc both tried to push unexperienced fighters to greatness(kimbo and lesnar) and how the ufc did it succesfully and elite couldnt do it….great night of fights over all i actually enjoyed this event…maybe elite isnt domne after all
Bunch of whiners. EliteXC is trying their best. Any exposure of the sport of MMA should be good for the fans of the sport.
Kimbo is not a Bimbo. he is a strong brawler, who is trying to break into a new venue. he is training, trying hard.
u guys who write how u hate him , are just a bunch of spiteful ****es, who begrudge a guy his spotlight. give him a break. he is training, he is taking the fights. and he’d whup all of u guy out here. so shut up and enjoy the show. u dont have to marry the guy. if u hate him so much, go watch something else.
again, the impostor brandon shows up….
hehe j/k
Dude how great is that!!!
Kimbo gets KO’d by a defunct UFC reject, and Jake Shields gets run through the grinder against another defunct UFC reject. I couldn’t have loved that better…
Ninja has an amazing chin and recovery! that guy should have died.. simply died in the ring with those huge shots! was great. Also was good to show he’s not as dominant as people thought. The Rua brothers aren’t quite as perfect as once thought.
over all great fights though!
I read an article on espn.com talking about the kimbo fight..
and the title was something along the lines of “Kimbo gets beat by an unknown fighter”…
that was kind of wack…
I think any legit mma head would know who seth is…
it just got to me…
as for the fight…
i will not be suprised if kimbo’s next fight is the main event!!!
elite xc is desperate…
another thing…didn’t seth seem kind of scared at the end of the fight??
it was kind of funny…he seemed like he didn’t wanna say anything to get kimbo angry…hahaha
he should have lived up the moment!!
I hope all the kimbo lovers realize hes nothing more than a frakshow now.
GIBOR,
You’re right that people shouldn’t hate on Kimbo. He’s just trying to make a living and I definitely respect that. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
To be honest I do not hate Kimbo at all. I hate the fact that he is given main event status and when guys who bust their a$$ their entire careers in small venues never get noticed because they just miss getting scouted. I know if I were still doing training(damn neck injury) I damn sure would not be happy that I put all those hours in the gym, running, and working to barely afford training costs and some street fighter gets main events and promotional deals while having accomplished NOTHING in the sport. I have no issue against Kimbo, man gets paid and can feed his family and is trying to learn the sport. I have issue with guys like Shaw who would rather use him as a marketing tool and put him in the spotlight when guys like Lawler and Shields(even Diaz) have paid their dues and do not get main event pay when they are the freaking champions. If he fought on the undercard or even if he were the first fight of the night I’d be cool with it but when the entire company is put on a guy’s back who still doesn’t fully know the sport and has fewer Pro fights that Anderson Silva has losses.
agreed
I do not want to see women fighting 5 minute rounds. One out of the two lady opponents gets winded quick every time. Midgets on the other hand….Old School rules indeed!!!
Eric,
Fighting Cy-Guyborg……wooooo…I’m with you. I wouldn’t fight that beast with 3 or more of you guys on my side. That is just trouble. AND!!! You really thought Daley would win?!? You broke my heart Eric. BROKE MY HEART! I’ll send you a Jake Shields T Shirt this Christmas.
KOuch one question…how many guys fights do you see where one of the guys is winded quick…a lot…lol. That’s just poor conditioning. I just say if you want to be accepted you should have the rules since it is not an exhibition. I also saw where Eric was coming from on Daley vs. Shields cause Shields striking is nowhere near where is should be…yet. However, his wrestling and submission skills a same are off the charts. I still believe Shields needs to get together with someone like Greg Jackson and then you would see him become one of the premier welterweights and maybe P4P guys.
I don’t see guys getting tired as fast as women for the most part. I don’t want to get to deep into this because I might come across sexist and prejudice……
Kouch- lol, I gladly welcome any and all free t-shirts.
No you’re not and I’m not trying to say you are. I think it is part of the evolution of the sport really, once women’s MMA gets more recognition then the trainers will be more serious about training them. I know in my old classes, out of the entire gym there were only 2-3 women who were serious about MMA the rest were there more Cardio or Self-Defense work. There are very few training partners in the right weight classes so it is harder to get the same amount and variance in training (at 112-145 mens or women’s) you would as if you were lets say a Welterweight. I had the same problem growing up as a 215 and Hwt. since everyone would rather play football. It just puts more on you to be serious about your training even if you have to do a lot on your own. Just think if they made it the same as guys and it got decent coverage you would see that same level of endurance and possibly more exciting finishes.
Nice job Eric.
GIBOR, i know youll probably never see my response to your message but actually im confident i could fight kimbo and take him down and submit him easily…heck i take karate maybe i could knock him out and why dont you just admit it your not sticking up for him your just a guy who always said he was the best and sat by your computer waiting for his next video because you thought he was a bad a**…..but back to more resorceful coversations….just for fun KOuch, i have to things to make you angry…one shields can not handle gsp’s riddem and two remember when that one guy thought your name was pronounced like couch furniture…that was hilarous you went off on him …but besides that go shields..all seriousness shields subs gsp in the first when gsp shoots to wrestle like he always does
Yeah KOuch. Remember when I implied you were some lame IKEA piece? And Shields sucks. Can I have a free shirt?
DBIZ,
No. Don’t recall. I am a lame piece of furniture? Totally lost me buddy.
WNBA
Shields sucks? Go do your homework. I am not explaining his track record again. Gain knowledge and look the guy up. He is in the top 10 WW in the world and his ground game is superior.
gsp vs shields for ufc ww title?
Gunslinger,
You just want me to get a gun, find a nice clock tower and open fire don’t you!?! Definitely a JOKE! No raiding my home please. Shield’s ground game is badass and still not getting proper respect from some “clueless” fans. I definitely agree he would submit GSP under those circumstances. However, if they stood…..nighty night Mr. Shields. Is Shields getting the reputation of a crappy fighter because he fights for Elite? Again, he has beat Okami, Sanchez, Fitch and Condit along with many others. Pretty F-in impressive if you ask me.
Women in sports….to me it’s all like the WNBA.
i definitly agree with you are you talking about how shields beat sanchez in grappling because i know they have never fought perfessional mma?……..but with the womans thing i definitly disagree with you womens mma is great to watch there all warriors and realy good fighters…they have some of the best fights and it is true they do steal the show…..womans mma is much better than the wnba….wnba isnt even a sport i couldnt name 5 wnba teams and i actually can name a single player…definitly get angry when i see it on espn because mma would do some much better in ratings on espn than womans basketball…no one watchs that crap but womans mma come on man that stuff is gold…carano vs guyborg is a fight i cant wait for
srry cant name a single player***
Dude, it was a joke….couch vs KOuch, etc.
Forget it.
who are you talking about?
oh your shields sucks comment…i get it now you just say that kind of stuff in front of KOuch hes a shields fan he doesnt take crap kinda like how i am about gray maynard….if you say anything joking about shields confirm it was a joke at the end of post from now on and…………PUNT!
It’s all a joke? Dude I am tired guys….or Biz’s sarcasm is cruel and unusual like a donkey show…poor donkeys. Where is Dolfan by the way? They did it again.
I liked that show ! I don’t think elitexc can always do good **** like this but I enjoyed it.
Arlovski was brutal once again !
Gina is hot but she didn’t make me love girls fighting.
Benji Radach was for real !
Jake Shields was alone in that cage.
SETHHHHHHHHH PETRUUUUUUUUUUZELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLI !!!
Good article, I agree with everything stated. The chicks put on just as an exciting show as the men and deserve 5 min rounds also.
GSP would own shields way worse than when he thrashed Fitch. Shields would get owned by Fitch or any of the other top 5 WW in the UFC. He’s good, but not that good
Del,
You have no clue what you are talking about. Shields beat Fitch. I understand you are unfamiliar with Shields but as a result you are wrong. He did not have the best perfromance on Saturday night but you cannot judge a fighter off of one fight. All fighters have off nights and Shields still won on his off night. Either Daley sucks and all the hype he got about being a powerhouse was nonsense or Shields is truly that good. Look’em up. Who are your top 5 UFC WWs? Shields has beat Okami who sent Mike Swick down a weight class after over powering him. Shields has also beat Condit, Sanchez and Fitch. Shields ended the Goat’s 13 fight win streak. Who should he beat to please you?
I’m trembling before KOuch’s wrath, and it isn’t even directed at me…
Out of genuine ignorance and laziness, how long ago was the Shields-Fitch fight?
You know why I don’t like women in MMA guys……I am a shovanistic pig…..for the moment. I don’t like women doing much other than lady like sexual stuff or cooking. Call me a pervert POS I don’t care. I am human. I am man. Hear me roar!!! Carano is a pretty f-ing girl. When she gets hit my man sensor goes into overdrive and screams, “fight back harder ****, you’re messing up your face! Do Playboy or PORN! Damn YOU CARANO!” In reality that is not exactly what goes through my head but women do not entertain me in the fight game. Never did in boxing and cannot imagine they ever will in MMA. I love violence and seeing athletes destroy each other. I respect all fighters for how hard they train and I feel it is great women are getting involved in MMA. My brain is just not entertained by women fighting. I love MMA and will support women fighters but in all honesty I do not like it. I want to….but I can’t….I just don’t. It does not excite me. Aside from Carano/Guyborg I dont give F what pair of ladies are fighting. Guyborg is a freak show and hardly a lady. Kimbo vs Guyborg…..Elite gives me that match and I may change my opinion of lady fighters. I just don’t dig it. Can’t help the way I feel. The second 5 minute rds come is the second the ratings drop. You guys have to remember that you are amongst the more hard core fans with invested interest in the sport. The average person who barely likes MMA in the first place is not going to enjoy women fighting anymore than they enjoy the men. If anything people will dislike it. I experienced, witnessed and felt the emotion while all that took place last Saturday as I watched the event with my wife and friends. 2 out of 7 of us were focused on the event the whole time. During the lady fight there was a lot of talking, a smoke break and people took off to the liquor store. From personal experience and my opinion, there is a very good reason women MMA is not a part of the UFC. MMA is still reaching out to the masses and women fighting is still a shock to people. I am not shocked but I do not dig it! Those of you familiar with me know I love MMA. I only want what is best for the sport. This is just how I feel. If women help the sport I am all for it but the entertainment value to me is just not there. Carano was a very good fight…ass woopin. Cyborg is better than a lot of guys. I have nothing but repsect for them. I just don’t like watching women fight. Cool? Good. I respect your feelings too.
Some of Shields record.

Dbiz,
You’re a funny guy. Fitch lost to Shields in a Gracie BJJ competition but I cannot find the date. What a crappy bandwagon driver I am! I know it is not “MMA” but a loss is a loss. I would expect the same results in the cage fighting MMA. Both have gotten better but I feel Shields is flying under the radar to the masses……actually it seems like he is not even on the radar.
KOuch,
You’re right he is not even on the radar for the masses, and Saturday’s performance will not help that very much. Granted you can’t judge a fighter on one fight, but he blew an opportunity on Saturday. You have mentioned that Shields beat Sanchez and Fitch, but they were not MMA. You also still haven’t said when that happened. I would venture to say that Fitch is better now than he was then, and is a more well rounded fighter than Shields. Whether that means one or the other would win, I’m not sure. That really can’t be decided until they fight each other in an MMA fight. Just because someone beat someone at BJJ only means they will beat them at MMA slightly more than beating someone at wrestling means they will beat them at MMA. I’m sure there are a lot of guys that beat Chuck Liddell in wrestling that would get owned by him in an MMA fight. There are wins on that list that are notable, and please don’t take me as being totally against you and/or Shields. The point I’m trying to make is that you’ve name dropped to support the guy, by bringing up Fitch and Sanchez, but neither of those were MMA, and therefore have far less importance in judging Shields’ MMA abilities than the Okami fight, that was MMA, or even the Daley fight.
so many guys keep saying that kimbo should be fighting lower level guys in the begining. but look who he has fought before heat the only guy with a positive record he fought was james thomson a journyman at best and he won that with a luck punch. even shamrock is no longer consider top competition and petruzelli was an undercard fighter.
great read! i love the pokes at cyborg and frank! i’m hoping that seth gets at least one big payday out of all of this….he really is a super nice guy. not bad for a part-time fighter that owns a smoothie king!
HAHA I am so smug. I really hope that puts an end to this whole Kimbo freakshow.
ALso lets not forget, that Elite XC got completely what they deserved. With Shamrock out (who lets face it, was put in to lose so that Kimbo can be billed as some sort of legend beater), last minute, we need to keep Kimbo in, he needs a dead cert, whos on the undercard, ex TUF guy, weighing a shade over 200Ibs? Seth was not just picked to get beat, but beat down and bloodied up good.
HAHA And Kimbo gets knocked out 15 secs in by a guy weighing about 40Ibs less, from a jab a few inches out while hopping on one leg, who an hour before was on the undercard having beat no-one in major competition, no real name, and confessed himself that fighting at this point was a hobby!!! Actually, maybe Kimbo and Seth did have some things in common afterall.
Well done Seth. Can we put Elite XC to bed now?
Dam that Elite XC and Kimbo!!! I yelled so loud at the TV cause I was so happy to see Kimbo get TKO’ed like that…..
… I woke up my kids. It took me over an hour to get them back to sleep. A complete waste of my Sat. Night!!!!
LOL @ Rambunctious1. As I was watching this off my DVR list at 2 am I yelled and nearly awoke my wife who had fallen asleep on the couch.
justin you mean the KOuch
Gun - OH troublemakers unite!
I wish i had a dollar for every time i heard someone over the last couple of years say “ok Now Elitexc is officially a joke”, they are exactly what they are ..free fights.
Cant wait to see Cyborg waste Gina, good striker.
the whole thing sucks and nobody wins .. the end
No certainly not. If wife was asleep on the KOuch, there would soon be a dead KOuch. And besides, he has already specified that he is not a piece of furniture, nor is his name a reference to one.
i know knock out + ouch = kouch
